Started the long process of applying (one by one) the rhinestones.

Just a wild guess (posting a pic with my measurements).
From the original prop pics, the star looks small (maybe even smaller than mine)

So right you are. Some props are overlooked but are so important to the plot - maybe one of the best examples is the R.O.T. matchbook from Hitchcock's "North by Northwest".
