Giving Away a Screen Used Matrix prop!

Back in the day I'd recently learned that you could buy Stormtrooper armor if you knew where to look. A little bit of web searching led me to the RPF, and eventually an AFX kit (that I still have, although it's basically just an occasional Halloween costume now). 17+ years later, both my interest in the hobby and a lot of props have come and gone, but I always end up back here eventually. :)

After Men in Black came out, I rushed out to buy the Agent Kit that included a neuralyzer only to be totally bummed that it was essentially a hollow piece of plastic. No pop up function, no flash, no sounds, no nothing...

I had just recently acquired one of the Star Trek TNG phaser laser pointers, and was so happy with its functionality, I realized toys would no longer satisfy my need for accurate, functional prop replicas. I began searching frantically online for a neuralyzer prop replica...

After losing my preorder money to ICONS, I stumbled onto the RPF. I ended up buying both the SD Studios and Coyle neuralyzers from here...

And since then, my collection has grown (while my savings account has dwindled...), but happy to have been here for over 20 years now!

I was looking to replace some parts on my time machine and a friend told me the RPF was a good place to find a lot of BTTF enthusiasts and prop makers.

It was around 2013 when Man Of Steel came out and I stumbled upon the threads while investigating the Art Nouveau stylings of Krypton, especially the armor. I loved it. I thought it exemplified biomimicry of buildings and technology in a thoughtful manner. I was curious to see how they did it, and how people would react to it considering the rather crystalline origins of Krypton. It turned into a deep dive about how they created an entire language for it too. I feel so far down the hole I found the cosplay threads. I found out about Heroes of Cosplay, Lightning Cosplay, Kamui, Yaya, Riddle and a slew of others that brought what they saw to life in the form of a costume. That's how I decided to build Zod's variant armor from the opening scenes of Man of Steel. It's how I discovered what I was going to build it out of and what techniques to use.

The first time I heard about the rpf was listening to the 'Still untitled' podcast with Adam Savage in like 2013. My gf (now wife) went to college 8 hrs from me at the time and I would visit a few times a month so I had a lot of time to absorbe a ton of podcasts. Then in 2018 I found it again by chance. I then realized this was the site Savage was talking about years ago. I just became a member about a yr ago because I had jumped into the prop making hobby and I love to be inspired by people here.

I have my own movie theatre in small-town Montana and I like to put props I make and find on display to get that visceral reaction from people that look at them. They tend to have that connection with them that I think all of us here have when we see props. It's a great hobby and this is a great, positive community and it's great to have.

I first found the RPF years ago when I was researching the real world parts used in Star Wars props. I never made a forum account, though. A few years later I was watching an Adam Savage video on YouTube and he mentioned the RPF. I had just renewed my interest in replicating props, came back and started an account.

Back in 2000 I was on the cusp of finding the cure for cancer. I was researching the final ingredient on the internet and accidentally found the RPF. I was so distracted it derailed my research. I’ve spent the last 20 years trying to get back to where I was.
But hey, I have props.

I honestly don't remember how I came upon TheRPF... I created my account so many years ago, in 2010 !

A buddy gave me an old MPC Falcon kit he had after I mentioned I wanted to get back into modeling.
So, I started researching ways to modify/update it and landed here.

I still haven't built that kit (never heard that one before ), but my work bench is covered in another project inspired from a post I saw here.

Doing research for the Alien EVA suit that was finally finished a little over a year ago.

Thank you so much!

Congratulations Egon Spengler! How exciting to add a piece of movie history to your collection.

Thanks a lot :D

Congrats to the winner!

Thank you! This is just too cool!

I know the contest is over, but it is that kind of generosity and sharing sprit that really impressed me with the whole RPF community. In addition to my "real job" of being the director of the AV department and adjunct instructor at a local college I own and run the Military Collectibles Shop in Milwaukee. In addition to collecting real WWII memorabilia, I was also fortunate enough to be able to find and collect some war movie props from saving private Ryan, band of brothers, the pacific, go for broke and lately Fury. I found the forum very recently compared to most of you, in talking with someone who called the military shop looking for some key pieces- I asked him "are you building an e-11?" And think he was surprised that I knew about them. Being a life long SW fan, I actually just finished having one done for me by a friend. I have also found a few graphlex tubes and an mpp that I hope to saberize soon. I am also hoping to build a d-44 and am also working on a Jawa blaster. I have very little time and talent so it is great to live vicariously through the awesome work here!
