Giving Away a Screen Used Matrix prop!

I was drawn here by a shared passion with Adam Savage, the Blade Runner blaster. I am here thanks to Tested.com and an insane fascination with objects and stories.

I came across the RPF when I found another post where someone had built a replica E-11. At that point I decided I wanted to build one myself, which led me to searching the web for more and there was the rpf, I only ever had the intention of building this one thing. But since finding the site I do not think there has been a day passed where I haven't been on it, and gone on to build a reasonable collection of replica pieces and learnt a lot from many of the great posts available here. I've been lucky too like many of us and found some good like-minded friends out there thanks to this site.

I've always been a big fan of Star Wars and Back To The Future. Star Wars is "impossible" to collect as a whole, so I began collecting items from Back To The Future, and I always thought that the props from that movie (almanac, pepsi perfect, etc) were way more "iconic" than other movies' props. So, a friend told me about this page, and since then, I'm here getting info, helping other users, and purchasing great replicas, from that movie, but from other franchises too.
Thanks for the giveaway, Art Andrews, and good luck to everybody.

I honestly don't remember what specifically drew me here, but I just remember stumbling across a Jurassic Park thread at some point back in 2010 and I was instantly hooked. The more I explored the RPF the more I was blown away by how many people shared this curious niche obsession along with me. I probably never would have attempted to build any prop replicas had it not been for the RPF. This community is indispensable and I'm surprised every day at the level of knowledge and skills present here. Cheers, all!

Sometime during the era of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, an adolescent Dan was leafing through a copy of Star Wars Technical Journal #3 that had materialized in his home. In it, he discovered a full-page ad from Icons for their "Skywalker Lightsaber," an ad that would irrevocably change his life, and launch him into a hobby of prop-collecting that has so far covered the following 20 years.

Sadly, by the time this ad was discovered, Icons was already defunct, so the internet searches began! As knowledge was gathered and accrued through sites and forums like Luukesabers, ASAP (A Site about Props), and Rebelscum, interests began to broaden from only Star Wars, to other franchises like The Lord of the Rings, X-Men, and yes, even The Matrix! So a new, larger database of information was required...

I had known about the RPF through mentions on those other forums since my early days of collecting, but it always seemed too big, too intimidating. But after enough years dragging my heels I registered when admissions were open, and have been a daily user ever since! The funniest part of it all is that even though I never did get that Icons Skywalker Lightsaber, I still have the magazine to this day!

I wanted to join the Railway Protection Force in India, but I don't live in India, so this was the next best stop, which in hindsight worked out really well.

I love Star Wars, Sci-Fi and building stuff, so this place is simply a wonderful home for people like us.

I was a 15-year-old newbie looking to make a Magneto helmet. A lot of time with Google led me to words like "Pepakura" and "Bondo", which in turn led me here. It worked out well enough, and this project was the first big one in a long line.

Even though I'm not cosplaying as frequently anymore, I still have some personal projects cooking - and anyway, this site still is and always will be an awesome place to come back to every now-and-again to get super-motivated, or even just to adore the craftsmanship around here. Recently I've also started working as a part-time Art Director Assistant, so I guess the time I spent here watching the pros really paid off.

So that's nice, you know.

Fun story.... I painted a Nightmare on Elm Street guitar as a commission piece and that indirectly led me to the site. The person that bought it ended up selling it on eBay... along with a bunch of paper props they lifted (STOLE) from the RPF free paper prop section. The s*** hit the fan here on the RPF about the seller and with some image googling people found my name as the maker of the guitar, and many assumed the seller on eBay was me. Luckily the seller was big enough to clear my name in the situation. Though I still got harassed through email and was confused, so I set out to find out about this Replica forum people kept referencing in the emails. I popped in, liked every I saw, and wanted in. Sadly I had a long wait until open sign-up.... those were the days when open membership was only a couple times a year. And I have been here ever since. Ah... the memories!

When I was a kid, I spent a good amount of time at my grandparents. My grandfather had two swords on his wall that we're decorative, and he would let me pick one off of the wall to hold while I watched Krull. Were they screen accurate? God no, but they were something tangible and real that immersed me further into the world of the film. Fast-forward a few decades, and I start a new job working with DarthSaber. We get talking about films and props, and of course he hits me with the "Man, you HAVE TO join the RPF". I will say that since being a part of this forum, I've collected and made more in the past 4 years, than I have in the rest of my life combined.

Keep making cool s*** guys!

I believe I found the RPF decades ago back in 97 or 98 when I was looking at trying to find out how to make or get Stormtrooper armor. I remember I watched "TROOPS" and I was instantly obsessed with getting some armor. Back then I think I was still mainly using search engines like Lycos, Yahoo, etc. Must have found it through one of those. It was the old forum, a couple forums ago I'm sure. It's been a while. I was still in Tech school and it was back when Galaxy Trading was a thing and the 501st still was just a small group with a website on geocities.Eventually I did get my armor and I became a member of the 501st. Still have my 3 digit id too :D I miss the internet back then before social media took over so much. It was more fun and creaitve and had a heck of a lot less like buttons. People would communicate rather than hit a symbol/like like cavemen. :D

Being a fan of Star Wars, I wanted most of all to learn about all the little pieces that made up a lightsaber or blaster! Searching the internet yielded the RPF and I proceeded to lose myself for hours! I had no idea so many people were as interested in this stuff as I was and even more so! The Matrix was another life-changing movie! I continue to "wake up" out of the matrix of ways of thinking imposed upon us all by those who would try and control us! Looking forward to the new movie!

A long time ago in a galaxy far,
far away....

Episode 4
A new website

It is a period of uncertainty.for years I collected and customized 1/6 scale figures. Until I stumbled across a customized hasbro tie fighter.
I then dive headfirst into doing my own custom. I scour the web searching for any photos, tutorials or tips. I then stumble across the rpf forum. It was a treasure trove of information.
On the site I learned about greeblies and kitbashing. I instantly fell in love with the way Star Wars recycled and reused props and parts, especially lightsabers
I soon found myself buying my first vintage graflex.years later I have finished multiple vintage lightsaber builds and spend hours each day admiring other members builds and sharing some info about my own builds.

Are you picking randomly, or picking best?
Because if "best", I have no chance - Because I have no idea! It was waaay back when, when it was on some other server/forum host.
I must have stumbled across it whilst looking for reference pics for either a pulse rifle or Fett lid...

The winner will be chosen via a random number generator. I just wanted people to share how they found us.

I came to The RPF after watching many of Adam Savage's videos explaining how great the forum and the people are - he was right. :)

asavage has long been an ambassador for the site. Someone recently told me while interviewing Adam that he called the RPF "an incubator for talent." I can't tell you how badly I want to make that our tagline. I love it so much!

I started looking for Pep help because I wanted to build an Iron Man suit. I went nerd gaga over all of the experience, expertise, and of course all of t he lovely builds. I've spend a couple of grand on maker equipment since I joined, got a good iron man helmet printed, then switched gears to make a Mandalorian outfit for Con season.

A long time ago, a very long time ago, I wanted to see what the Blade Runner Blaster, and the Pulse Rifle, were made from. It took me years, but eventually I worked on some low budget films around Tampa that led me to meeting and becoming friends with Craig Kovach, who had built a few firing BR blasters (and had buckets of parts in his garage) and through him and Rich Coyle I found the RPF. Kinda fell in love with the community and the information shared and the passion shared for film props, and films in general really. All these years later I'm still madly in love with the hobby and the community.

Strangely enough and I almost hate to admit it, the Rob Zombie MTV's Cribs episode changed how I saw the world of props and collectibles.
I'm probably 15 at the time, and I see Mr Zombie giving a tour of his house when he points to his replica Haunted Mansion gate plaque. I just remember thinking "Wait, you can own that stuff?". That opened the door and the hunt began. I believe eventually someone on the Doombuggies.com forum mentioned something which eventually led here looking for some Haunted Mansion props and possibly a Jurassic Park piece. Now I have a complete Jurassic Park themed room and more Haunted Mansion props then I can shake a stick at.
All thanks to RPF...and Rob Zombie

I was looking for references to build a Skesis costume from the Dark Crystal movie and a very good friend of mine recommended the RFP. I did not find any reference at the time for the Skesis but I did for so many other costumes I have created. I come very often not to look for ideas but just to see the beautiful work that every one does. I just hit "New Posts" and spend my time looking at what people are doing. I am always so impressed with the time, energy and ingenuity that people put into their builds.

Woah! Andrew, that is quite the offer. It must be a great feeling to own a screen used prop from such a monumental movie in the sci-fi/cyberpunk genre.

I believe I heard of the RPF only a few years ago on Tested when Norm was interviewing Brian Mix on his latest prop, the Star Trek Tricorder. I had no idea such a community of like minded individuals, and more talented than I, existed. To think that anybody could join and collaborate, or just discuss what they were passionate about, especially with well known people in the industry, just blew my mind! There's nothing quite like the RPF. I'm so very glad it's available to anyone and to those who want to share, learn, and make new friendships.
