I've been working on a 1:6 scale Giger's Alien 3 sculpture. As much as i like the alien used in Alien 3, i always wished they had used this one instead. Here's the pics.

It looks very fast, yes. Like it can go on the ceiling, and the walls... Yes. Very fast.

Interesting looking creature with those female lips. Rather reminiscent of Sil.

I actually like the closed mouth. It's more like the classic drawings of Alien.

I agree. The full lips are lost when they are stretched across a mouth full of teeth. I know it has nothing to do with Egypt, but some Egyptian-style base would be cool. lol

I was thinking about its mouth before I started this.

I have to sculpt it with the lips, as that's the way it looks and part of what makes it Giger's Alien 3.

But at the same time it does seem strange having an alien with no teeth.

So I’m thinking I might have to have two versions of the mouth area that could perhaps be interchangeable with magnets or something?

Clutch : I see what your saying about the base, but I got something, that if it works out should look very cool.

You can make a hinged lower jaw.

If the lips are supposed to be solid and not soft and being able to be pulled back revealing the teeth, then that offers an ingenuous way of doing the teeth, as a sort of retractable option, where, when the lower jaw goes down, it also pulls the upper teeth down from behind the lips, as well as pulling the lower teeth up from behind the lower lip - all connected to the motion of the lower jaw.

Sorta like seen in the Prometheus xeno with the extending teeth.

    If that makes sense.

I think I understand what you are describing. Gonna have to have a think about it. The mouth area is quite small so it would be fiddly to do. Hmmm?

I know it's a different Giger character, but perhaps something like this:

The extending teeth was something I saw in the flying alien in Pitch Black.

I gotta say that I love the very feminine, human lips on the front of that alien head. Don't lose that!

Could do something like this. I'll have a tinker with it and see what happens.

Definitely not going to lose any lips on this one.

    Thanks John!

Stunning build brother....one of my favs....

I have a couple of questions for you guys if you can help...

I want to start creating sculpts like this,i started to learn wire frames last year and did really well, the problem I have is the Clay.
I want to use clay that I can work on over time(like this sculpt) and also a clay that once I have finished it can be placed in a display case....I don't want to create molds/busts etc...I just want to create something like this and then display it in a Perspex box.......can someone please help me in which clay specifically can do this.....I was suggested a few last year and tried SS...didn't like it,then I heard you had to fire it and it cracked and the smell was awful...

Please help guys...appreciate it......don't want to start another thread

She is coming on very sweetly indeed Pete, important to keep the lips just as you have them as they are a reference to Li,a very important person in his early career and really gives the sensuality to the piece that Giger includes in his work.......cannot wait to see more ;)

Thanks! I think the clay you want is super Sculpey which you say you've used already but not liked. It does take a bit of practice to get used to it and you should always cook it at a lower temperature than i says on the packet. You could also use milliput or aves epoxy sculp which sets like rock after a few hours.

Getting there slowly! Lol! Will have another update shortly.

    Ha! thanks Clutch!

    THanks Daredevil!

Thanks Bruce! Ah yes i've seen some pictures of Li in some of his works/books. The lips will be staying as they are! :)

Got a small update on this, and i also need some advice.

I've recreated a Giger Tile (i've only just recovered the use of my hands, it was not easy) that i would like to make as the base his Alien 3 will sit on. I'm not sure how to do this. I would like the black part of the tile to be recessed by aproximately 0.3 to 0.5mm and the whole tile will be approximately 160mm by 210mm.

Should this be done by photo etched brass or by lazer engraving or is there a better way. On the last piece i had lazer engraved there seemed to be an issue with it being engraved at this depth and losing detail the deeper it was engraved. If anyone has any advice i'd love to hear it.

    Cheers

    Pete
