I've built a proton pack in the past, and I know what a job it is. BEAUTIFUL work, Nick! I can tell you from experience... the second one will go a little faster.

Looks great!
Man I wish those fiberglass frames were being produced when I built mine...scratch built wood, resin you name it...all 35lbs of it.

What does the fiberglass one weigh?

thankyou for all the kind words! im afraid the 2nd work in progress shell isnt fiberglass. its one i scratchbuilt myself using sheets of styrene. hopefully i can get the weight of my 2nd pack a little lower than my 1st :)

to anyone thinking of building a proton pack or a full ghostbusters costume i say go for it! when i started to build my pack i knew it was going to be a long hard process but i wasnt expecting it to be as much fun as it was!

and nothing can beat the feeling of strapping it on and drawing the thrower for the first time. had a huge grin on my face the whole day i first got to do that :D

oh and another reason, the ladies love a ghostbuster ;)

I got rid of my pack long ago after my broken neck. Figured I just would not be able to heft it about anymore. Been missing it ever since. It is one o fthe best costume props out there period. My son wanted a pack along with his friends this year, so I thought I would build a cheap couple sets. Got a loan on a finished pack to take measurements on an found I could tolerate having it on for the moment. So really thinking about building a good pack along with the old paranorman plans for the kids.

Started pricing out the components, still fairly easy to get most of the parts. But one thing i do want if I am going to pop a good pack together is a strong lightweight shell. If anyone has a line on where to get one I would appreciate the PM. I may end up getting a couple as it looks like the one I have on loan may be upgraded while I work on the others.

I don't want to derail Nick's thread but PM on the way...

Also nice build Nick, I know what it's like to build something from scratch and finally get to the end product... A bunch of pride...

oh yes Flynn i agree 100%, nothing beats that feeling of adding something to the shelf that you have built yourself and just cant wait to show it off to your friends :D

wish i could show you all the full uniform but right now i dont have a flight suit but it is near the top of my "to buy" list :)

Thats a sweet looking pack and nice work on what you've done so far on your second version. Its definetely the way to go, getting the weight down as much as possible. I used to have a pack (made myslef from wood/resin etc) and it weighed a tonne!!!! I ended up selling a while back and have since regretted it :( Nothing like strapping one of those to your back!!!

Nice work!!!

Yea really nice job on the pack. On a side note where would one go to start pricing out everything if they wanted to make one?

Depends on how sturdy and how much you want to put into a pack. You can build a fairly nice cardboard pack for under a hundred dollars. Basic lights included. Won't last long and won't stand up to the rain. You can build a styrene pack for about 200 dollars. A bit more sturdy but will not last in a crowd. You can build a paranormal pack off plans on the web for about 450 with lights included. Much more sturdy, will take a few hours in the rain with minor repairs, still have to be careful in crowds. Or you can spend about 600 and get a fiberglass shell with basic lights. Upgrade the sound and really nice lights for about 400 more. The fun part of this is that you can make a fairly decent pack yourself cheaply and it won't look movie accurate but works for most of the public out there. Or you can go full tilt and make a super accurate pack with everything for about 1000 to 1200. Or, you can really go full hog with an all metal frame and parts, wand and all for over 2 grand.
