Re: Ghostbusters 3 is a go!

I hope (whatever they do) that is doesn't end up like Ghostbuster 2.If Shai LaDouche is in it...I'll NEVER WATCH IT.I can't stand seeing that no tallent clown on screen.

Re: Ghostbusters 3 is a go!

It was Aykroyds Idea. Ernie Hudson told me the whole idea over dinner like... 8 years ago? I don't even remember how long ago it was.

They could and HAD to travel interdimentionally to another plane of existance. NY was NY but not. And you could see ghosts and demons walking around over everyones shoulder.
that was aykroyd's "hellbent" script from the late 90s. the new GBs had to travel to the "hell" version of nyc, which was called "manhellton". the big bad of the story was a normal looking business man in a suit named luke siffler. say it fast---lucifer. the whole "big evil ghost is really a normal dude in a suit" thing was taken from the early GB1 scripts. seriously, pee-wee herman almost played gozer.

i REALLY wish aykroyd would hang up the idea for a third film and work with IDW, who are currently doing the GB comics, to turn his spec scripts for GB1, 2 and 3 into graphic novels. it's the perfect medium for his crazy stories!

Re: Ghostbusters 3 is a go!

I agree, TGG! The cutscenes in the video game were awesome! Well, I enjoyed the whole game actually. Use a better graphics system and give us something really interesting!

Re: Ghostbusters 3 is a go!

I think what makes me laugh the most is that ernie hudson isn't even mentioned by aykroyd for this new film.

Re: Ghostbusters 3 is a go!

I hope this gets made just so it can be just laid to rest after it inevitably flops and we can stop hearing news about a new script being written for it every few months.

Re: Ghostbusters 3 is a go!

I must admit, I've been looking forward to a new movie, and I've been hoping for one since the rumors of a third movie started up. I'll be anxious to see it.

Re: Ghostbusters 3 is a go!

Yeah I'm surprised Ernie hasn't heard anything about it. Kind of sucks, honestly. Don't tell me they killed him off... :rolleyes

Re: Ghostbusters 3 is a go!

it wouldn't be Ghostbusters without Bill Murray. That's like having Star Wars without Darth Vader or something, or Star Trek without the "Enterprise".

Re: Ghostbusters 3 is a go!

At this point they can't have a third GB without Murray. So I really don't know what Aykroyd was doing with even talking like that. I do like the fact that Murray has always said if they do another film, he wants Hudson in it.

Low blow Sir. Low blow.

:lol

Re: Ghostbusters 3 is a go!

There can be a GB without Murray. GB is more than JUST his character - it's the whole concept.
Sure, you are going to have a lot of people up in arms about it, but I don't think letting the fate of the franchise rest on weather or not Murray signs on or not. It's just not fair.

Re: Ghostbusters 3 is a go!

I think it has to have murray in it. Either way we will probly see it any way but in my opinion the only way this movie will work is if its the original ghost busters with a new script. They would be much older obviously which could be in fact the funny thing about it... what you guys think?

Ah, but you forget the key ingredient for ANY movie these days to secure funding: branding. Without Bill Murray's participation, the brand is incomplete. This is one of the rare instances where MERELY slapping the name "Ghostbusters" onto a film will not be enough to convey the "brand approval" that studios want. In fact, it'd probably be a net loss for that "branding" if they called it "Ghostbusters" without Murray's participation.

While most of the other main actors from the originals are part of the brand, Murray is central to the brand just as much as the "no ghosts" sign. Remove him from the equation, and you don't have "Ghostbusters." At that point, you might as well purge all the previous characters and cast, and simply do a remake, which, of course, would bomb because the original is as well regarded as it is.

If they're gonna re-launch the franchise, they need a "passing of the torch" film that involves the original cast, or at least the original Ghostbusters.

You sure? Star Trek: Deep Space Nine is my favorite series out of the whole franchise. Watching a series about other characters who don't have the luxury of being a part of an iconic ship with the name Enterprise really added depth to the universe that was unseen in Star Trek at the time. I like it when franchises branch off with different characters but are still set in the same universe.

It's not about missing something, it's about doing whatever you have to work with right. I'm going with "Innocent until proven guilty" on this one.

Re: Ghostbusters 3 is a go!

i read a while back that before signing on to do GB2, aykroyd, murray, ramis and reitman made a deal with sony/columbia that required them all to sign off on ANY new GB project before it went into production. the deal also stated that reitman had first right of refusal to direct. this was to protect columbia from going out and making GB sequels without the original creative crew, which apparently almost happened when david puttnam was the head honcho at columbia. i'm hardly "in the know", so don't take it as the gospel-- it could definitely be inaccurate info.

if all of that is correct, though, then murray HAS to sign off on the script before GB3 can go into production--whether he appears in it or not.

Re: Ghostbusters 3 is a go!

I sense this movie crapping out, but as long as they don't get horrible actors to play as the cast and the director tries to keep it to the original movies as best as possible I might be tempted to watch it. Maybe a bootleg copy but I would still be tempted to watch.

Re: Ghostbusters 3 is a go!

The more I think about Aykroyd's idea for a story...the more I never, ever want to see this movie made.

I don't want to see a Ghostbusters film with Ray going blind, having a pirate's eye patch, Egon to fat to put a proton pack on, no Winston, and no Venkmen.

I'll just stick with playing the games with my son and reading the comics.
