Yes, this would be a very interesting development.

I'll be looking in the Sausage Party thread to see if any of ya post that you enjoyed the humor in that movie but complained about the "dick" shot in this one.

Is sausage party a feminist cash grab of an existing IP from the 80's that will alienate fans based on a horrible marketing strategy? I thought it was a funny cartoon movie about food not knowing its supposed to get eaten by humans. *shrug*

What is a crude movie, made by people I don't like, that I will never see Alex?

Actually, I imagine the two movies, will appeal to similar audiences.

'Entertainment' like Sausage Party, is just proof that I have lived too long. :cry

Nah.

Proof that anything named Jenner or Kardashian is driving around in luxury cars that even doctors can't afford, living in mansions, has trucks with their image on it, and have scores of adoring die hard fans that hang on their every vapid brainless word, all for doing a porn tape is proof that I've lived too long.

want to join me on mars ? :)

This might be a good example of crazy femenists not knowing what fight to pick when something fails...

This is a curious line ;o).
Why THOSE women, not really known for comedy? ones a tennis player for petes sake ;o)

>>>“But wouldn’t it be nice if, before someone gives the sad-eyed Kit Harington the chance to prove he can send us into a fit of giggles, someone lets Kate Winslet, Lupita Nyong’o or Serena Williams have their chance? A moviegoer can dream,” .>>>

-edit, took a look at two articles. one a highlight, and then the actual article. still a goofy complaint, but i understand it better in context now.

I don't read japanese, but apparently they like the dick shot shot..

I love that bottom-barrel humor all day, but I think there's an appropriate time and place for the joke to be used, and I definitely feel it wasn't the place for it in a GB film. No matter, it's good that the people stuck it to Sony and made it clear with their wallets that this wasn't the GB they wanted and now they get to go cry home about it. Someday they'll learn.

coming off of following this film almost 24/7 is kind of what i imagine coming off a sports high is like of constantly winning that swim meet ;o).

it's kind of an empty feeling missing how bad this thing can get and searching endlessly for 'oh my god, this is a shocker' type of info ;o).

but on the whole, i'm really glad it's all over. i just hope nothing else i love gets destroyed for at least the next two years. i need a break :)

Just picked up the last kids book I didn't have from the film. Has some back story that got cut from the beginning of the film. One scene is Abby going on TV alone to talk about the book after she's ditched by Erin. Looks like the scene took place in the 90's when they put out the book. Another is Abby showing off their elementary school science project on the barrier she still has. Maybe these will end up in the director's cut but I think the back story got conveyed pretty well with what made the final.

Haha goldenhawk, I was just about to link this. A great article. As this thread winds down, this is definitely a good read.

I dunno. I found it a bit political for my tastes.

I also think that it kind of overstates the importance of the blogosphere and the online controversy surrounding the film.

I think that the controversy certainly hurt the film in the long run, in that it alienated some of the audience that might otherwise have given the film a chance. But that's not the sole reason the film failed to match expectations.

I think Sony took a risk with this film by tapping a director who wasn't that interested in the first place, and by acceding to his demand that the film be a reboot...and then drew a LOT of similarities to the previous film. So, they killed the old continuity to give freedom to the new guy to tell his own story, and the story he ends up telling really ends up not being anything all that special.

The other part of the risk -- the more important part by far -- is that they dumped a TON of money into this film on the belief that it could turn into a huge franchise. I just don't think that Ghostbusters as a property was going to become that kind of franchise. It certainly wasn't about to do so with this film as the basis. The marketing push, the big F/X budget, I mean...it was a risk.

Mostly I think the risk was premised on the belief in the brand itself carrying the day, regardless of the script, regardless of the controversies associated with it. In a way, I think the studio viewed this property as something like Star Trek: a bulletproof brand that even critical fans will go see. It just isn't as strong as that.

Let's be clear about something: as a standard comedy, Ghostbusters actually performed pretty well. If this film had a budget of, say, $80M, it would be doing fine right now, and a sequel would be likely. But given the amount of F/X work, and the $144M budget, it's just not good enough to break even, go a little over that, or fall slightly short. Had Sony played it a bit safer with the film, in any of the various respects in which they took risks, I think we'd likely be looking at a sequel.

And it's still possible that we'll see one if the licensing end of this pays off. Unlikely, yeah, but it could happen.

I'm waiting to see if the all female Ocean's 11 remake is going to cause another crapstorm like this thing did.

Hopefully people will learn to just relax and if they are interested go see it or if not, stay home. It really isn't healthy to generate the kind of angst seen here over a film and the gender of the cast.
