How many puking face emojis did it get? That Facebook page is known for being bombarded by such puking emoji. And then the people who run that FB page deletes the negative comments. Typically Sony MO.

I can honestly say that I was a GB diehard, even helping run a franchise in the DC Area. Hero pack, movie accurate props, etc. Now I feel it has all gone to waste. The reboot has left me and my team with a bad taste with the GB Fandom. Especially how some fans just bought into the reboot thing how, line and sinker. The divide between pro and anti reboot just keeps getting bigger, and a sequel to the reboot will just make the divide bigger. The GB fandom really is in a sad state.
I don't make it a habit to count puking emojis, so no answer for you there, unfortunately.

I find it a bit silly to completely toss away your enjoyment of the original movies due to the reboot, but more power to ya. Sell the props and move on with your life? Maybe try focusing on things that bring you joy rather than utter disgust.

"Sony's MO"

While I disagree with deleting valid criticism in comments, I see no issue with deleting puke face or non-constructive posts.

I posted a video on youtube of my friend singing and people kept posting that she was "ugly as *****" or "probably a pedophile"... so I deleted them... Why should I leave it up?

bah. I did leave constructive critique, however.

So I saw the movie this evening.

For the sake of transparency, I have no great love for the original movie, it's a fun enough 80's romp, but is outclassed on just about every level by the same stable's Blues Brothers. Conversely, I dislike Feig's brand of humour, and his inability to open his mouth without sticking his foot in it.

So hopefully, this is fairly objective.

The overwhelming feeling I had afterwards, was of a slightly better than average straight to DVD movie. Obviously the effects rank above that, but that was definitely the vibe.

The screenplay was sloppy, disjointed and merely followed enough join-the-dots points to pin on a framework of scenes that felt like the crew and actors turned up on set every day with a 'what are we gonna shoot today'? ethos. The characters were thinly sketched at best, you learn next to nothing about their backstories or relationship dynamics, so it was hard to develop any attachment to them.

Mckinnon at least gave Holtzman that off-beat weirdness that has been much commented-on. Without it the character is given virtually nolthing to define her other than 'tech-girl'. Jones was pretty decent, given what she was given to work with. She brought some enthusiam and energy that seemed lacking in the rest of the cast. Wiig did her usual nervous insecure chick stuff and McCarthy did child-woman who falls over. Those two characters were pretty much a wash.

And oh lordy, they technobabble! It goes on and on in so many scenes, without ever coming close to even partly convincing you that any of these women are scientists. The script, or choice of actors, truly botched that one, I didn't buy it for a minute.

Hemsworth, on the other hand, simply isn't a character at all. He's a running gag that gets old pretty quickly. Curiously enough, about the only gag that got a smirk out of me was the Mike Hat gag, which comes so out of left field, with an almost pythonesque delivery.

Which brings me to the comedy...there are few of those left field nonsense gags that are sprinkled through the movie, mostly surrounding Holttzman and Kevin, which was the only stuff that worked for me. It's not even that there were a bunch of gags that fell flat, more like a lot of stuff that I wasn't even sure was supposed to be funny.

Going back to the DVD movie comparison - everything felt small and rushed, even the final battle failed any effort to appear epic. It doesn't seem liked Feig has enough experience of staging action or CG heavy scenes, it all felt pretty cramped unimaginativeley choreographed. The effects were competent, nothing great, nothing horrible.

I kind of liked that in this iteration the government were actually supporting them and using them to face all the danger, then continually debunking and ridiculing them 'so no-one realises ghosts are real and panics' That was a fairly decent gag, and at least something new.

Now, unless I missed something, I'm gonna take a shot at the common 'hater' accusation that they couldn't even get their continuity right in terms of the weapons capturing ghosts at the start, then killing them at the end. Even Devin Faraci's love fest claimed this.

When they first try out the Proton Packs in the subway, they are underpowered, and they have problem containing the ghosts. They then get a power surge from the train line, that blows the ghost they are trying to trap into itty-bitty bits.

Later in the movie, Holtzman provides them all with weaponised gadgets - grenades, handguns, the boxing glove thingy. When the big battle kicks off, she tells them not to forget their sidearms. In the battle scene, they clearly use their Proton packs to ensnare the ghosts, and the weapons to finish 'em off. Not sure how so many seemed to miss this.
As for the fabled (groan) misandry...get the hell out of here! I know most of the MRA's raising this one haven't even seen the movie, but this one is just a nonsense. The movie kind of mocks everyone tbh, and if you are seeing this, it's entireley in your own mind.

Oh and Rowan......I got nothing. Just the most forgettable generic villain ever.

So overall, another negative review. I didn't hate it. It was just...there. Another rushed into production tentpole that didn't take the time to figure out what it wanted to be. Another poor result of an industry that believes the way to make movies is not a solid, well developed script, but a set of notes and a belief that everything can be created in edits and reshoots. It can't.

I would. But the Halloween season is coming up and our franchise is committed to yearly events that we have done since 2005. So I am torn about what to do.

That is horrible man. I'm sorry to hear that. First off I hate that singers are expected to look a certain way... I miss the old days when singers only had to sound good!

Anyway you would share a link? I promise I won't leave a bad comment. I'm a singer/musician myself.

Rey held her own in SW TFA.

Rey is great, but she's pretty much all you get. Even with Leia, a lot of her focus is spent on worrying about the three men in her life. Maz makes a point and randomly disappears. And no disrespect to Daisy's routine in getting into shape for the role (It does compliment her character), but I find it awfully refreshing that Ghostbusters showcased women who are by no means in the best shape can still be part of the action. Given the percentage of people around the world who are in the heavy range and an utter lack of those kind of roles, this inclusion can mean a lot.

That's youtube in a nutshell. One youtuber claimed another was a pedo because he looked like a convicted one and the guy had his life threatened even after it was proven wrong and youtube didn't punish the guy. Pretty sure 90 percent of youtube is just there to ruin the lives of others even if it's a tiny bit at a time even causing death threats.

Just do your thing. The reboot isn't going to touch the original in the long run. It is just another mostly forgettable remake. Keep on busting!

for me, It's not so much that.. as it is the animosity toward the brand as a whole by the people currently in charge of it.
Knowing some of the old casts comments recently too make it tougher to go back and even enjoy the original movies.

I know how GH feels. although i never thought gb fandom was in great shape even before this movie.

I was just thinking Its funny how relative these things are. I can totally see what you mean about the state of the GB fandom. Over at Blackstar Squadron we get frustrated because of how rough it can be as Battlestar fans. After years of leading the charge over there stepping into Ghostbusters felt great! There was a huge base of fans and a wealth of information and support.

In a lot of ways I've drawn parallels between what happened to Battlestar fandom back in 2003 and what has happened to Ghostbusters. I think I was a bit more prepared for it this time around after all the crazy fighting that happened back then over the BSG reimagining. That said, it sucks. The fans still don't get along and it is pretty much a big rift. The apples and oranges argument doesn't hold any water. I always say "I like oranges and someone just handed me an apple but called it an orange".

I don't know how close your franchise played this thing out, but mine was right in the thick of it with Sony. I hate a lot of it. The spin doctoring, the pending law suits, the politics of it all...it really got me down for a while. But then Sony would be super cool to us fans and pull us in for events. It was almost as if I got a glimpse of how cool it could be (and arguably should have been for a long time!) but with this kind of back handed idea behind it.

At the end of the day I've just had to really separate it all. I love the gear, I love the originals, and thats where I have to focus it. I can totally understand how hard that can be with all the negativity of the last year. I just hate to see anyone have their fandom tainted. I hope you continue to gear up and have fun with it! Though it does suck right now to be asked about the remake every five feet. :/

We weren't trying to sell her as a singer, we just got drunk one night and decided to cover "Let's go to the mall" from "How I met your mother"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qU8V8CnO3sA

Anywho... "They tried that already" (in regards to the hack) = Dumb

So I SAW IT!

I'm gonna write it up in a bit... gonna digest some of it first. There were some good surprises, and some "ah... yup. That's what I expected"... and "oh no.... ouch." moments.

Also I am in no way sober, and so it would be as big a mess as this post, only much longer

I agree.

The lack of decent female characters is a real weak spot in the OT (and the PT for that matter). It's starting to make the Lucas-era SW movies feel a bit dated. Leia was a darn good character but she was pretty much all we got for 7 hours of screen time in the OT. She had to be the designated hot chick of the series and one character can only be so many different things.

It should be illegal to show any images of Kate McKinnon licking that proton barrel. That's probably the number one shot that is the visual equivalent of scratching a chalkboard.
One would think a nuclear scientist would not lick the equipment. Hopefully the RGB Egon wannabe character will die a slow horrible death due to radiation poisoning.

What makes it tough to continue with the GB franchise are comments from Sony about how everything here on out will be reboot based. There has nothing been said to the contrary.

Bill Murray's cameo was pretty bad. The death metal scene felt so forced and out of place. The guy just got knocked out and jumped up on stage later like nothing had happened?! Then Ozzy was just thrown in...WTF?

It wasn't all bad but some of the comedy felt forced. Like someone said something funny and another character was processing the joke to make another comeback...I dunno.

Jones did good in some of her scenes, but, of course, the gargoyle on her back scene wasn't so good. Some stuff was hilarious. Third scariest thing going to the Bronx...:lol

Someone else mentioned that none of the Busters seemed qualified to speak about their expertise? I agree. It sound like babble on tech without actual meaning. Bad guy was forgettable. So much was just meh.

And there were a few disparaged women...that vomit ghost girl had a bad background. "God was drunk when he made her"...

so yeah, Sony IP's should be scared

watch ivan internally screen words in his head 5 sentences ahead as he stalls before saying every sentence.

I feel sorry for him.

He's stuck with a movie that wasn't needed and just isn't good.

He's stuck with A Going Crazy Dan Aykroyd.

He's stuck with an already femenast crazy paul feig, amy pascal, leslie jones and mellisa mcarthy.. (the remaining two seem down right normal compared to the others in public)

He's stuck with bill who could care less...

this is a man who is all out of options with a million dollar idea that he knows can continue to do good if you get the right team in it.
probably eating him alive too.

Reitman should just cash in and sell to Disney.

I wouldn't blame him one bit if he did.

But, they should already have cut loose and torch-passed the franchise back in about the early/mid-1990s. GB2 made it clear that the original cast was not who they used to be. (I'm not saying they nothing else to offer the world, but the 1984 GB mojo/chemistry/moment was gone.)

As much as Bill Murray is a PITA he might have cooperated with a torch-passing movie just to get free of the GB issue in the long term. (Offer to kill Venkman or send him off to Thailand 5 minutes into the movie. Offer to write it so he doesn't have to share scenes with Ramis. Whatever.)

There has been a big fanbase eager for a more RGB-style version of this franchise for most of 30 years. In hindsight it's pretty clear the original cast would never have been much help for that after the first movie.
