I honestly didn't mean to even quote you. Posted in a rush.

But you "missed" the question, so I'll repost it for you!

"Soo... How were the non sexist, non racist, non vitriolic men of the world represented in the film?

Please retort and elaborate!"

Did you mean to spell guarantee incorrectly? If so, I'm missing the joke.

...and really-- questioning a male nerd about his relationships with women? That's a bit of an old stereotype, don't you think? My girlfriend is just as amazing and talented as she is drop dead gorgeous. I could write for three hours about how cool my female pals are, but I'm honestly too busy.

The post you quoted was asking for sources on the GB16 marketing hating on hardcore fans, I'm not sure why you're bringing the racism/sexism/hate angle into the argument. Still waiting on an example of how GB16 marketing targeted fans.

Nothing in my post was pro/against the reboot. I corrected you on your incorrect facts.

Of course not-- Sony is franchise hungry and they have tooooo much money tied up in their deal with the GB primaries.

Aside from Reitman, who graciously chalked most of the resentment up to a strong fondness for the original, there was a lot of press (I assure you that some of this was studio-driven; the rest followed the established narrative) and a lot of interviews painting all, or most, of the detractors with the same broad "sexist" brush. When they acknowledged there were any other lines of criticism, it was chalked up to "manbabies." The studio went through their social media and Youtube comments and deleted thoughtful criticism and negative comments from women, while leaving the trolls and idiots up to make them seem representative of the rest of us. This stuff is not at all hard to find.

there's been so much of this crap, I THINK even reitman may have gone the crybaby route too...but only once, and only lightly....probably after his far more reasonable response got back to the studio and they said 'you're not exactly helping our phony narrative here'. but I could be wrong on that, since there are so many manufactured articles on this crap.
Reitman, Hudson, potts and weaver are the only respectable ones left that don't feel the need to be pushed around by sony at this point it seems.

add to that a questionable twitter 'scandal' for the racism angle, considering people where already accusing sony of it with the patty character...

and dan's goofy comments responding to that scandal..(and most people didn't take him seriously before that got even more upset)....

I honestly don't know how or why anyone would want to defend this movie at this point..

Furthermore I TOO am a "nerd" I have Star Wars helmets all over my den. My girlfriend has probably had more girlfriends than you lol! And she is smart and tough as nails.

She LOVES the original GB!!! Owned both since she was a kid. Has them memorized.

I have NO influence on her (if I did there would be NO 50shades bluray in my house)

She can't stand the new GB. She's fine with it being all women! She likes the women in it... But she sees this reboot as an abysmal abomination. Hates the fact that they killed the original timeline, and refuses to see it. (I actually suggested we use our free passes to see how bad it was, I think she lost some respect for me!!!)

The bill Murray scene ALONE makes me want to pour hydrochloric acid in my eyes and ears.

How can ANYONE like this and stand up for it ad-nauseum????

If you never saw the original I would understand... I guess...

Or maybe it's like I was for a few months after I saw SW episode1? I really thought I liked it, and defended it... Until I came to my senses. (There were awesome designs and moments! Which is more than I can say for the new GB)

Again for anyone that cares to actually answer the BIG question:

"Soo... How were the non sexist, non racist, non vitriolic men of the world represented in the film?

Please retort and elaborate!"

If I could roll my eyes harder I would. Cmon man. Patting yourself on the back there? Isn that kind of an old stereotype? The self proclaimed nerd telling everyone how gorgeous and awesome and amazing and perfect his girlfriend is? Kinda like "oh my god hey guys look at me, I have a girlfriend! Look! Over here!" I threw up in my mouth a little when I read that. :sick

I lost some respect for myself, doing the same thing, actually ;o)... but what he hell.. almost no one else online has any these days ;o)..

As far as episode one goes, I think it was a valiant effort to try and expand the star wars saga. there was ALOT of new stuff added to the universe, and alot of cool stuff too. sadly, here instead of an unchecked dan aykroyd, you had an un checked Crazy George Lucas running free. Hence, we get stuff like 5 year old anakin with mommy issues (all probably be cause they could make a joke out of the 'he's too old' line)..... and Jar Jar. People where too afraid to tell crazy old lucas these where bad ideas..

On the other hand, we got cool new aliens like the ToyDarians...Darth Maul...(and a version of his planet from the books in the clone wars)...the neat designs of Naboo...
yet we had to trade off bad acting, stiff acting, weird regional earth accents with bad stereotypical dialect influences..

I think we got more cool stuff from episode one from people who genuinely love star wars than gb had any hope of giving us..

Again for anyone that cares to actually answer the BIG question:

May I summarize.......From the video clips and reviews, Feig portrays men as idiots and ********. That was it. Kevin is the newly enshrined Jar Jar Binks of the GB fandom/universe. And that would be insulting Jar Jar. The Feig ends the movie by blasting the GB logo in the dick. Wow, what love Feig has shown for the franchise by doing that.

You should be dancing....yeah.......uggh. Enough of that reboot ****.

Come on pro 16 guys! Answer this question! Neil etc. let's not post again till someone actually deals with the fact that this movie is completely sexist. Hint, the answer is NOT "well movies have been sexist towards women since BLAH BLAH BLAH"

The answer to racism isn't "MORE RACISM IN YO FACE!!!" Same thing applies to this sexist waste of film or HD space!!!

So... Again, one last time... for anyone that cares to actually answer the BIG question:

"Soo... How were the non sexist, non racist, non vitriolic men of the world represented in the film?

Please retort and elaborate!

If we waited for someone to answer what has been brought up before, an answer by pro rebooters, we'd be old and grey.

I guess single life isn't so bad. I can flambee pizza with a giant flame on the grill if I want.. I could eat ice cream direct from the can without getting yelled at. I can leave the seat down and no one cares.. and, my dresser sometimes doubles for the floor when i feel lazy. oh, and i can go to places where and when i want, and no time schedule to get back..

I guess it's a fair trade off ;o).

Some of you that defend this crap have never had a girlfriend or female friends I GARAUNTEE it. It's hillarious.

You've probably never even touched a girl!!!

Now we're getting into play ground arguments.

Niiiice.

:facepalm

I didn't miss the question, I just chose not to answer since I've been trying my best to avoid the subject-- but since I'm being prompted, might as well go with it. I think the sexism/racism angle from the haters has been blown WAYYYY out of proportion. Total reactionary move for being accused of that very same thing. As for your question, there were definitely examples of healthy, intelligent men that showed no signs of racism, sexism, or general hate. The Charles Dance character-- although he wasn't the friendliest person, the head of Columbia University is a prestigious position few of us will ever reach. Michael K Williams, Ed Begley Jr, Matt Walsh, Toby Huss (all freaking AWESOME actors) were totally fine male characters lacking in hatred, racism, and sexism. Of course, there's a chance I missed something-- I've only seen the movie once.

Personally, I don't need to find positive representation for my race or gender to enjoy a film, so I wasn't on the lookout.

...and no, I wasn't offended by Rowan being shot in the dick.

Now that stuff, yeah... can't argue with you there. We were referring more to hardcore Ghostbusters fans in general being singled out in the marketing. I never saw that. I know several GB fans that weren't interested in the reboot that didn't feel slighted by the marketing.

If I could roll my eyes harder I would. Cmon man. Patting yourself on the back there? Isn that kind of an old stereotype? My post was directed at OldKen, who made mention that people that liked the reboot have never had female relationships. Go back and look at my post history-- bragging on my girlfriend isn't exactly a normal subject for me on RPF, however, since it was brought up, I thought I would touch on it. I'll shout my admiration of her from the rooftops. Apologies if you find that offensive for whatever reason. Lets try this-- I'm an average white American male that has had normal, healthy relationships with females throughout my life. There-- is that better?

Neil etc. let's not post again till someone actually deals with the fact that this movie is completely sexist.
If me being quiet is all that it takes to get rid of the whining, please ignore my post above. :lol

Wonderful, isn't it?

A Ghostbusters for everyone.
Fractionalized fandom is now here in force and is inevitable with so many remakes, re-reboots, re-imaginings, rebooquels and regurgitations.
Fans range from embracing it all with joy to rejecting all but the original, to get a life! Which clan are you?!!!! Are you friend or foe? Reveal yourself!
But you can buy products from all. Perhaps the extra special limited bluray edition with collectible figures will interest you?
And yes it might, I may be comforted in my purchase of the classic as it sooths my disconcerted soul.

I don't need a movie to cater to my gender and race either! hell I'm half Cherokee, so that's not EVER going to happen.

Movies shouldn't be used to bash any group of people. Seems that nowadays it is full on encouraged to bash men, esp white men. For the simple fact that "it's not fair that white men have always gotten to be the heros" this line of thinking is soo blatently obvious HERE I don't see how any of you can defend it.

Just make an entertaining movie. (I miss those days)

Instead of taking a franchise name and using it as a tool to push a viewpoint.

There should have been a mixed group of GB and not have stayed hyper focased on the "girls rule, boys drool" mentality.

All the men were portrayed as either mean, or dumb. That is the most simple that I can put it.

Blows my mind that some of you actually don't see it. I have to believe that you do, but this PC programmed world won't allow you to acknowledge it.

I will say this for turtle fandom. most of the old school guard seems to be sticking together this time, where it was more fractured for the first film. even as far as the flashy new Nickelodeon show is concerned..most are finally starting to realize that it has no form and structure and doesn't really know what it wants to be. and treats the franchise as kind of a joke.

of course, you now have the nu fans who don't care for the old stuff, mixing in with the fans of the old stuff who hate the new stuff. and it's the same problem :(.

The other part of the problem with all these reboots is you have un creative studio hacks who run by committee and survey making these things. and people who just don't know what's good for the property anymore.

unless something truly exceptional comes along..it's probably safer to ignore most reboots, because they hardly ever get the heart of what made the original work.

Even the Dangermouse reboot suffers from feig syndrome. all the women animals are best and top in their class, where as all the men animals, even dangermouse now, act as dumb as penfold. making them all utterly useless. The DM reboot also falls back on dumb, simple comedy. not that the original was really high brow, but you NOTICE the decline if you're a fan of the original.

- edit - it's also funny seeing some of the fan pages resorting to tumblr sites for box office news
