Got emailed by a girl's mother a few days ago about how her daughter just saw the movie last week and now wants to be a buster and wanted to meet a real one so we set up a meeting at one of our events today. So however you look at the movie, I'm sure as heck not calling it a failure.

I've been working all day trying to build a 3D subway by myself with nary abreak, so apologies if i'm reading this wrong. so, so far, we only have 1st week uk numbers if i'm reading this right, correct? or does that number include the second week as well?

maybe they already pulled it out of WW markets if it's really doing that poorly.

I'm going blind looking at dots all day and moving verticies...so maybe i did read that incorrectly :)
The $5.7 million is totals to date, since release on July 11. Pitiful for a movie that cost at least $300 million to produce and market.

Oh, it's the "reboot wasn't made for us" argument again.

no, it's the 'this is the only defense we have left'... argument.

despite the fact that this was happening LONG before Paul Feig came along. Just like women starting in movies done right happened long before, and long after paul feig came along. LOTS of female costume-ers in groups before this.

Only $5 million in two weeks.....wow..

Anyone want to bet when this dumpster vanishes next week? and how long it takes to get to walmart? if walmart even stocks it? I think Best Buy and walmart havn't stocked under performers in the past.

I wonder if this site was one of the many doing the man baby comments.
If so, they seem to be the first to start poking fun at it...

Wait, are you guys saying this movie has only sold $5.7m total? As in, USA+ worldwide?

And it's had at least 2 weekends in the USA now?

$5.7 million is the total to date for the UK only. The reboot has made $71 million total in the US to date. An estimated $89 million total worldwide to date.

We loved it! The theater we went to was packed! We are off to see it again tomorrow!

I'm not one to get into these "I hate remakes, originals only!" fracases but this damn movie looks like utter horse manure of the highest order, couple that with the attitude people are giving to those of us who are saying "hey, this looks like a sewer fire it's so bad" and I have to at least say something.

And to the defenders who are still proudly saying it's magic.....

Look at my post above-in my local area it's barely showing at all, state wide I can track only one theater that's showing both the three and two D versions a lot so I am sorry but the film is doing horrible,it goes with the $89 million across the world, the thing is dead and at best is gonna be a C level film,if it cost $300 mil to make it's going to (at best) make half it's worth back...maybe.

It's dead,Jim,stick a fork in it.

And I'm still watching any clips I can and you'know what? NOTHING I'm seeing makes me want to see this! I'll take one for the team and try to watch it in some manner when I can do so for free but I'll bet anything I won't make it through ten minutes before I'm punching the fast forward button.

I'd like to hope it'd be gone in all but AMC theaters by friday, and by then they'll have dropped the 3D showings too.
some smaller theaters arn't even showing it anymore.

I wonder if it's all but gone in the UK and Australia too. i saw a post on imdb that some australian theaters where not even planning on showing it for more than one showing on one screen and then quietly phasing it out. but that was a month or so ago on imdb. so who knows.

It's ALREADY available for pre order this week in the UK on DVD.

Neil I just looked on a few cinema sites and the thing isn't really showing in small areas, the norm seems to be you'll get one or two showings of the 3D and mostly two of the 2D showings with maybe one or two small areas having multiple showings i.e. one, four, seven PM

The bigger areas that ARE showing it I can tell you from some I've been in have fifteen plus rooms so sticking a stinker in one room way in the back won't hurt them.

And it's not showing up on a lot of lists past Wed or Thu,Star Trek and the new Ice Age is for the most part or they're hawking some new stuff coming up.

So just my two cents, take it for what it's worth, this thing is going down like a space shuttle with a hole in it.

Box Office Mojo says it's still on the same number of screens it opened on, at 3963. I find that hard to believe. In any event, what's the final tally to be? 90 million? I'll be angry if it hits 100 million. I'm already amazed it hit 70. Doesn't deserve even that.

yeah......but i doubt even sony would fudge box office info. that's probably a crime on the books somewhere.

all I can go by is what moviefone shows...

At least our friends in the UK and Australia seem smarter than us. they seem to have avoided this like the plague...

I don't really care if it makes $100 million-here's a question the $300 million is that all up? the film and promo? or just the film? if it's just the film then that $100 million isn't gonna go far.

Oh and I saw some GB branded Twinkies at my local Wal-Mart,I had to pick the box up to look at what exactly was on it and is was nothing just a little blurb about the film being in theaters and that's it,odd as most other films buy space they splatter the box with pictures and art this was....one small no ghost sign and some small arse writing on the box, lackluster is the word I'd use.

A lot of butt hurt in this thread towards this film. If you didn't like it fine say your part and move on. Put the torches and pitchforks down people.

Wow! A voice of reason in this thread???!!! INCONCEIVABLE!

As I said I don't like to get into these kind of things but this movie is a strange singularity so I want to point out a couple things:

The fact I don't like what I see isn't butthurt just my opinion, same as yours liking it,it's just I'm not saying you're stupid or saying you're butthurt that I don't like it just people who defend this thing seem to like going out of their way to call names which is....odd and childish.

As far as how it's doing, while I'm no expert I can get an idea of how a film is doing by looking at my local cinema and the show times and how long it hangs in there:

A wild success, mega blockbuster will be showing from around eleven in the AM until eleven or even twelve at night in both three and two D it'll do this for as long as a month (Revenge of the Sith was packed a month after it came out,I saw it personally)

A so-so film will get both three and two D starting at around four in the afternoon until eleven or so at night, you can count on it being there for two or three weeks.

A bad film will get a two and three D showing for a week then by week two you're down to one type and maybe anywhere from a four to only late showing once or twice a day-this means the film's in trouble and I'll see it at Walmart in a couple months for a starting price of something like $15.99....

This new GB? in week two? ONE 3D showing at 9:10 PM! so it's a turd afire as far as I can tell...I guess an insistent person can call it a wild success but I'm not seeing it-that ain't butthurt kids, that's a fact.

So I'm a little amused and willing to get into this fight, the thing is a singularity and I think BOTH sides are being a little cray-cray about it,personally I think it looks like crap but if you like it,hell if you want to make sweet, sweet love to it I don't care but fact is this is going straight for the $5 bin at Walmart by next year.

I think the use of the word 'failure' is being used on the 20,000 feet view of the film's ultimate goal which is to make a ton of money, which is realistically drastically underperforming for Sony. In the studios eyes I think this film is far from the success they were hoping.

In terms of the mainstream, the fans that have come out of it and children it's touched and affected... a total win for them. And that's great! All kids need their heroes and you can't take that from them.

On a costuming scale... you know it's weird.... I don't approve on this film personally, but I have to say I wouldn't at all roll an eye at the costumers sporting the new suits. Ghostbusters as a whole is great. I just feel the new movie is all kinds of wrong and not what it could have been. It'll be nice seeing a mix of men and women GB costumers sporting their own custom suits at cons. I fully support that.
