Well what does it say about the RPF that a not even thinly veiled accusation that the CEO of Sony Pictures rise to her position not on merit but some other means? Do we wonder why there are so few women participating in these conversations? It's a pretty hostile environment.

It was like a record scratch... wait, what?!

So many occasions I've expected this thread to get locked... there's still some rational discussion in her on the merits or lack of for this movie, but for the most part... It's like pure hate and BS turned to 10.

Toxic.

It's a pretty hostile environment.

maybe it will be less hostile if three of you gang up on him and call him names? Do you even own mirrors?

The irony of your statement is that this isn't even the first or second time I've watched you make personal attacks directly at a poster because they dared criticize a movie you liked.

I think you need to do some soul searching. You've become everything you claim to hate.

For the record: ignoring him, reporting him, even refuting his claims are all options that don't involve actually contributing to the "hostile environment."

I've never called him names. I have called him out on being overly negative and hateful on a thread in an ENTERTAINMENT section.

He just basically implied a woman ****ED her way to the top of Sony. It couldn't possibly be from, you know, being a hard worker. My wife is a Production Manager in Animation and this kind of crap gets spewed out ALL THE TIME.

I don't need to see it here as well.

I've posted vids and articles... I never push an agenda, call people involved in the vids idiots or shills or try and get others riled up, I just share and say what I like about it... I don't take people down.

That's not the case with some here.

The Two gods fighting against each other would make an interesting story line. one god was impossible enough..two would be a no win situation.
I don't think i ever heard TR's game was first. the story i heard was it only came up because of Zootfly...but considering how long these games take to produce...makes sense.

The pitch for Murray's brother reminded me of his scene in waynes world explaining the video game. I'm so glad he caught on though.... He seems a whole lot nicer than his brother, who comes off as a major ass.

they did star wars kinect too? I can't even get that Mother to start, let alone play. how far the once might have fallen.

however, forever greateful for ghostbusters 3. it kept the spirit of the movies, continued to expand the lore, and gave us AWESOME new stuff to boot. that damn library tornado ghost..
the collector

Mr.Melchior, I salute you for doing what sony clearly doesn't get.

I found it funny (way back) that people got all "What a weirdo..." when Sean Young dressed up as a cat to try and get the Catwoman gig in Batman Returns... Sometimes you gotta just put yourself out there to get noticed....

Here's the guy who got the Slimer gig... worked for him...

Aw man... I coulda been slimer!

I wonder if Dave Coulier tried for it.

My wife preordered our tickets for tomorrow. The main theater we go to was just about sold out so we had to go to our #2 theater. My nephew is excited to see it. :)

Well it's the big night, still TONS of reserved seating at my Arclight available. First showing on the fancy screen with fancy sound system looks like 20 people or so.
Go late enough I think you could get a private screening.

got called me out on something in PM.. post edited.

sometimes hating on something because it deserves it makes you loose site of things once in a while.
but, i guess you're allowed one mistake at least.

will try not to follow the example set by sony and stick to hating on the movie rather than the people involved.

Feel free to call me out on it again PM bud if i ever veer off the track again.

Then why has he been asked to edit the post if it was inappropriate? Because it was. And before this I have never attacked him, I've challenged his assertations about a conspiracy theory regarding reviews. And to repeat I do not care about this film that much and I don't mind at all people hate this, but to make the suggestion he made was abridge too far even for the moderators.

I'm actually kind of glad I'm out of town this weekend... Generally when something like this comes along I like to rewatch the main flicks leading up to it, and I've just been too busy these last couple of weeks.

I'd like to give the first a re-watch, as I haven't seen it in a bit... I showed my kid 2 years ago, I think, and she loved it. She really wanted to see the sequel so I said she was on her own for that one, heh.

She quit halfway through.

I'll likely rewatch Ghostbusters 2 for this though, but maybe just play it with commentary - Redlettermedia did a pretty entertaining commentary track you can play as you watch... They spend a lot of the commentary discussing the first as well.

Plus, second week drop off could be huge... so if I got on a saturday afternoon, it'll just be me and the fam! heh.

This is exactly what I was talking about, but then got called out on being passive aggressive and attacking people. Kind of funny, it got squashed but I was like :wacko

And to the idea of starting out as a secretary and being the head of a major studio in record time, why is it misogynistic to think that? Just because she is a woman, doesnt mean she cant know people in the right places? You think thats just exclusive to men, that women cant have questionable means to their end? Look at her emails and the reason she was kicked out of Sony. I doubt she is an angel. Usually ANY person that gets to the head or has that much responsibility and gets paid that much that quickly had to step on some toes to get there. Its not like she started the company herself and worked her way up that way. Dont be so quick to call people a heavy handed insult such as misogynist. Its insane how people get so offended on the behalf of others.

That wasn't what the post originally implied but it's edited now and done.

So the system does work. Now just put two and two together and you'll see it.

Also, might want to delete your quoting of the offending text.
Oh yeah, totally. Remove any mention of disgusting misogyny and carry on like it didn't happen... :rolleyes Just like in the real world.
Look, don't jump on a guy for calling out REALLY offensive remarks. Perhaps a better option would have been to report the post to the mods (before it was self-censored) and not poke the bear, but when someone goes from very obsessive film hating to outright personal attacks on a woman involved with the film... I can forgive someone for publicly calling out the (thinly veiled) slander. Heck, if I hadn't had to go cook for my Nan, I was going to report the post myself.

And to the idea of starting out as a secretary and being the head of a major studio in record time, why is it misogynistic to think that? Just because she is a woman, doesnt mean she cant know people in the right places?
You know full well that what was implied was not 'knowing the right people', Indeed, the fact that the pointed use of phrasing.. that she 'started out as a secretary' and 'somehow' got to the top' can be used in such a context is loaded with cultural misogyny. It demeans the (highly skilled) position of secretary (note - NOT just 'typist'), it demeans women, and it deliberately implies (along with the repeated mentions of alcohol) that she didn't earn her position through hard work and doesn't know what she's doing.
This is why people still have to call out archaic attitudes like this, and will need to do so until the last 'and how do you think she got that job - nudge, nudge' BS is buried.

Ok, so.....hopefully the brouhaha surrounding some comments a ways back has now abated and we can move back to discussing the film.

Where are we on our First Weekend BO Take betting pool?

So, while we're on the subject, no one's gonna call out this new film as being misandrist? Cause I sure am

Not me, I'm not personally offended by a film that makes fun of men considering how poorly women have been portrayed for decades in film. I'll take my payback like a man.
