Firesprite, our very cool and very talented author! Hope you are doing well.

Yeah, so, last night I was with a group of close friends that I haven't got to hang out with in months. 1 guy out of 5 has a very opposite political view than the rest of us... But you know what? We talked briefly... Heard each other's points and went on having a great night! I can see 2 sides and LISTEN. (Very rare!) just like I can here!

I think this movie was a bad idea for not being a continuation FIRST AND FOREMOST. I don't care if they are men or women or both!!! Should've been a continuation! They could've EASILY been the 4 daughters of the original GBs!!!!

This just is what it is in my eyes... A crafted agenda using a popular franchise!

And I don't think ANYONE thinks it's better than the original... Do any of you???

I'm angry I didn't get a true GB3. NOT because I'm a masoginistic, racist, man baby *****.

And I resent being told that I am.

D Osborne I respect how you are handling your obviously strong feelings, and I've heard and see some of your perspectives on this ISSUE.

But, you guys ARE talking about an issue...

The anti crowd are most 98% talking about the movie in THIS THREAD.

Aww, thanks, Ken! Doing great, thanks for asking.

I, for one, was not thrilled about the prospect of the reboot. I didn't think it was necessary, nor did it seem like there was a huge yen in the world for more Ghostbusters to begin with (the fact that we haven't yet gotten the third movie should, I think, have been a clue to people). However, the movie went forward and after hearing from people I know and trust that it was not that bad, I went and saw it myself.

It wasn't that bad, IMO. Was it as good as the original? No. I'd say it was roughly on par with 2, however, which was a definite step down from the first. Just like 2, the pacing was weird in places, and there were definitely gags that went on long after they ceased to be funny (for me, specifically the scene with the Patrick Swayze references went on WAY too long). There is also the continued insistence that the only black person in the main cast has to be a blue collar worker as opposed to a scientist (even the assertion that Jones was originally supposed to be playing McCarthy's character is, to me bull**** because McCarthy's Abby is ridiculous and would not even remotely be taken seriously by the scientific community). I would, frankly, have rather seen her kick ass in the role that went to Wiig.

However, there were also nuggets of awesome in there as well (Holtzman's entire character was a whole barrel of fun for me and invariably, I found myself smiling when she was on the screen, for example). Jones was great, and Hemsworth had WAY too much fun playing both the vapid eye candy and the over-the-top villain.

I think where the movie stumbled hardest (for the most part) was when they tried to address social issues in the film. Aside from the part about reading Youtube comments (which made me snort-laugh), it was way too heavy-handed in its approach. Where the movie was at its best was when it loosened up enough to remember that it's supposed to be a comedy and let people just have fun with it.

The fact that GB2016 exists doesn't extinguish the movies that came before, just as the prequels didn't extinguish the existence of the Original Trilogy or, (shudder) JJ-Trek eliminated real-Trek. People saying that somehow these things destroyed their childhoods is a little ridiculous. Wrecked the future of the franchise? Certainly, in the case of GB or Transformers, or those of us hoping to get a more intelligent version of Star Trek any time in the near future. But what came before will always be there, comforting as the woobie you grew up with.

Anyway... my point here is that both sides have valid points and if people would maybe listen to one another on occasion, things wouldn't have devolved this far. But isn't that always the way?

so long as you try to block all the trouble makers who try to start stuff up.
Oh the irony...

BTW, I'm not hating on anyone, I just feel obliged to point out nasty, possibly sexist comments, and those such as saying they do, in fact, want to cr@p on a kid's dreams because he enjoyed GB16... all of which I believe are against the spirit of this site

Pee Wee herman voice 'I'm going to listen RIGHT NOW!' sorry, couldn't resist ;o).

While I don't agree with Holtzman (I thought 50% she could have been a breakout of the movie, the other 50% she looked stoned or something . like in the 'how many laws you've broken line' versus the scene where she's explaining the new equipment. I can't remember what it was, but there was one spot there where I felt like the ONLY real character of the movie was forming).

I DO agree with you on hemsworth. I found myself enjoying the movie the most as he moved into the role of the smarter villain. You could CLEARLY tell he went into more of a thor mode and upped the game a little, where as with the comedy, I personally felt he didn't really feel all that comfortable trying to improve what was there.
But when he became the villain, I felt the movie got a little more interesting.

Evil Thor and the opening with the haunted house where about the only good parts in it for me.

and i'll leave it at that lest i ruin your post more ;o).

Read your last quote again. Sounds like the mission statement of a SJW to me. And thats fine if thats what you want to do, but dont insult someone, or make a blanket statement based on a couple of people, whom Im not even sure said what you said, at least on this site anyway, because its likely to offend people who objectively dont like, or dont want to see this movie based on what they have seen in trailers etc. I for one am sick of being lumped into that crowd of misygonists/man babies just because I was vocal about not wanting to see this movie because it wasnt funny, had bad writing, subpar effects etc. Its BS.

Im also pretty sure nobody was "crapping on a kids dreams" either. Was his dream to enjoy GB16? How would a couple people on a site he probably doesnt even know about affect him?

You know, before I clicked on this thread just now, I was thinking it should probably be locked. We've pretty much said all there is to say on the subject by now, right?

While I wouldn't qualify myself as pro-reboot, I am genuinely taken aback by the venomous hate for the whole thing. I mean, it's just a movie, isn't it? I liked the first Ghostbusters a lot, and the second a little less. Sure I'd like to have seen a genuine GB3, but Bill Murray pretty much screwed the pooch on that. Where's the hate for him? Heck I'd have settled for a"passing of the torch" to the next generation of Ghostbusters. Didn't get that either. Worst case scenario, I'd have settled for a good remake/reboot, but instead we got none of the above. It's a done deal. This may have killed the franchise. Get a 4k copy of the first two, enjoy them, and get over it. Maybe in a decade or so, they do it again, but right. Or not.

We've only got a few weeks left folks. Might I suggest we just put people on ignore so we can all live in peace here?

it's pretty clear we'll never get along.

Even my OCD is tiring of it ;o)

So far I think solo is the only sane one of us being brave enough to leave this thing alone ;o). I just hold out hope we can get back to seeing how low this movie can fall :).

I think the main problem for all the hate is all the dedicated fans feeling like the companies are ignoring what they want and what they think is good for the franchise.
that's it with me at least.

I'm just tired of all these short lived reboots that clearly don't invelop the main spirit of what they are supposed to be reflecting. they come in, stir up the pot, divide the fanbase, cause endless arguments, and then vanish, only to try again in 5 years, rather than trying to figure out how to do it right the first time.

At least as far as I'm concerned, I think after so many of these things, that's why the 'loyal friend and true' (to use a price is right term) fans are getting so pissed off.

Although, after this movie...I followed it too closely, and I'm too burned out.
they want to ruin the next one? that's fine. i've seen all i need to see with this one and don't expect quality anymore.
I'll just enjoy what's here ;o)....

this is it for me ;o).

Why has no one pointed out the fact that the guys in costume were in the original costumes and the car was also the old ecto1 style? He looked very happy to see both!

We have NO idea if that kid even liked the new movie... Do we? Maybe I missed it?

Either way I personally got a big smile that he got to have a fun day!

Im also pretty sure nobody was "crapping on a kids dreams" either. Was his dream to enjoy GB16? How would a couple people on a site he probably doesnt even know about affect him?

Which funny, since I'm one of the only people for the past few pages that's been posting things pertaining to the actual topic of the thread (WOO concept art!). I'll even throw another in at the end of this post. :lol

The rest of my posts have been centered around pointing out glaring generalizations being thrown around by the very people complaining about being generalized, as well as picking goldenhawk's brain on his generally dismissive comments on the FTW charity and aggressiveness towards the general public while cosplaying. There's a LOT of awful, awful humanity rearing it's ugly head around the reboot. Has anyone even brought up the awful fact that Leslie Jones was doxxed today?

Anyway, if the mods want me to stop posting in this thread, I won't have an issue with that at all.

On a brighter note, WOOO more concept art!

Firstly, why is anyone who calls out negative comments immediately labelled 'SJW'?
Secondly, why is social justice a bad thing? You want injustice? Not me, I want equality and a basic level of respect for other people without stereotypical assumptions bassed on gender.
Thirdly, since you asked about those remarks, here they are:
See, THAT'S the reaction I wanna see movies having. Kids being excited and inspired. You so-called 'fans' spouting all the hate in this thread... you really want to cr@p on this kid's dreams?
Actually, yes. I do.
And ok, maybe 'man-babies' was a little harsh, but arguably less so than
Reboot Scum

I'm not even going to go looking to quote the sexism because I'm getting tired of reading it. Should have learned my lesson in the TFA thread. But I'm done now. Next big movie with kick-ass female leads? Guess I'm going to have to just not read that thread cos it looks like women and feminists aren't welcome here.

What?

This quote is very confusing... Where did you get this from?

We just don't like this BIG flop of a movie.

I seriously haven't seen one post from our members that say women aren't welcome here...

Just: THIS MOVIE SUCKS.

Amazing how your looking Soo hard for a fight.

Last time I checked, there are many women and girls that hated Feigbusters. The three women in our franchise hated the reboot.

Then your anger is better placed aimed at Bill Murray because there have been numerous attempts to get a sequel off the ground in years past and he's always been the stumbling block because he refused to sign off/participate.

oh believe me it was. i'm about angered out now ;o)

This keeps up they're gonna ban any mention of Ghostbusters on here! :lol

The movie sucks far as I can tell,it's earnings are in the toilet, the fans are at each others throats, the SJW's are swinging in and getting the attention they love.....
The whole thing is becoming a ******* Chinese fire drill.

Because from what I have seen, SJW's like to try and pick a fight so they feel superior when there isnt even anything to fight about. Its like the vegan trope. "HEY EVERYONE LOOK IM A VEGAN" Everyone else: nobody asked, nor do they care. Dont be so sensitive about sexism. Most of us dont like the movie, and you believe its because it has female leads. Thats preposterous. For me at least. I already explained why I thought this movie was a bad idea, and why I didnt pay money to see it, and none of it was because of females. Im a heterosexual male, I love women. Do I love women in ****ty movies? Not so much. Do I love men in ****ty movies? Hey guess what, not there either. Yeah, women and feminists arent welcome here :rolleyes. And down comes the pity party card. Its like trying to argue with a brick wall. Im sorry, a female brick wall. :wacko Ill tell you one thing. You give the word "feminist" a bad name, and drums up nothing but the negative feelings one might associate with that word.

Like OldKen said, youre looking SO HARD for a fight.
