The bummer about that is they cut winstons character down after Eddie Murphy declined the role, like 70 percent or something. I LOVE Eddie Murphy, I cant even imagine what he would have brought to the franchise if he accepted.

I've always heard Murphy and Murray didn't like each other, even down to some sort of SNL first class vs second class feud. Not sure if there's any truth to that, however the egos working together would have been interesting.

I always love to think about all the might have beens with the original cast, like Keaton, Goldblum, Walken, Michael McKean as Louis, the hotel manager actor had tried out for Peck originally and got called back for the manager role, Grace Jones as Gozer, so so many.

Might i suggest we ignore the people who like to drag this thread off the track of movie talk, be it movie bashing or otherwise?
this thing doesn't have much life in it left...and it'd be nice to end it on a high/low note..

just a suggestion.

What's interesting about this thing now, is that this movie has somehow managed to hold a steady 2.5 million for at least the last 7 days according to box office mojo, after dropping pretty quickly to that point.

How much of that, do you wonder, are the die hard GB fan boys and girls going back to see it multiple times? that would be rather impressive, if sad if that was the case.
I could barely last 20 minutes, never mind more than one showing.

@NeoRutty I wasnt even talking about you per se, it was Bryancd, and James Kenobi 1138 mostly. FunkyJedi and Karmajay probably, but the threads have got so long Im not going to cite specific examples. Its just funny how people get so up in arms on both sides to the point where, in honesty, NeilT doesnt actually KNOW any of the people he is talking about. He doesnt freaking know Amy Pascal or Paul Feig, who the hell cares if he talks trash about them and what decisions they made with a franchise that he cares about? The dude is ranting on a forum, with strings of text and links to articles ON THE INTERNET. You guys make him out to be some card carrying loon that are free to bash him and be condescending with that mob mentality(looking at you James Kenobi 1138, Bryancd, FunkyJedi, Karmajay). And yeah, sometimes he gets excessive, but...its the internet. Dont read his crap. Simple as that. Its like some people LIKE to gang up on him. This Ghostbuster thread is the only thread I have seen that with too. Granted I havent been here as long as most of you, but still. This is the ONLY instance I have seen of this.
@d_osborn So what if he wishes Paul Feig ends up jobless. Is he going to because of NeilT's rants on a stupid website? Of course not. Now if NeilT was making picket signs outside of sony, and went to various news outlets spewing bile and actually got attention and then Sony looked and said "youre right, we should fire this guy" (obviously Im being sarcastic) and he DID get Feig fired? Then yeah, I would be right with you guys and be like "the dude is a nut". But thats not the case at all. AT ALL. Its just funny how so many people can be so pretentious about stuff. This is the only forum I visit so maybe its like that all over, I dont know.

The hands on that slimer remind me of the melting man from the original robocop, everything else looks awful. Really uninspired. I feel like an art student in high school made that. :lol

At least I'm in good company. I've known those guys a long time around here, long enough to respect their opinions even when I don't agree with him. I in regards to comments in this thread, I'm not picking on or ganging up on anyone, I am responding to post that I find suffer logical fallacies, straw man arguments, or worse things like implied misogyny. If you think that's douchey I can live with that. I can also share this forum with people like Neil, if I agree with him I will acknowledge it. The reciprocal is also true.

Its also worth noting some of the most vehement detractors have been asked to have comments pulled by the Mods. I have been here since 2002 and not once have I been asked to pull a comment or even have any interactions with the moderators regarding my participation in the RPF.

You're right-- so what? I don't take personal offense to it, but it's pretty common place for Neil to throw around the victim card on the GB16 threads while he's also throwing around his own fair share of aggression. If you see some guy in a bar ranting and raving, he will probably become the topic of several conversations. Squeaky wheel/grease. It's nothing personal. :D

Eddie Murphy was never up for the role. Aykroyd was writing the initial script with Murphy in mind for the firehouse security guard character named Ramsey, which morphed into Winston once Ramis came on. The Eddie Murphy casting idea was never floated to Reitman once he signed on to direct. The Winston role remained pretty beefy until after Hudson was cast. I think the October script draft was when the role was minimized.

Have you heard Ernie talk about it driving him crazy in 2 how he was left out of the courtroom bust and how the only thing you saw Winston doing in the 5 year gap was birthday parties, while you got caught up with the rest of the characters? While the courtroom was obvious the job thing I didn't really think about till he brought it up.

Yeah, it's definitely an interesting point! I had never thought about the birthday party thing, myself. The courtroom thing could EASILY have been fixed--some line about only having three packs, Winston tossing the trap or herding the crowd to safety.

The addressable audience market in China is massive and will eventually be the largest in the world so we all should get used to movie's having elements that will appeal to that market. And let's not add xenophobia to the list of ugly opinions expressed in this thread.

Regarding this film, my understanding was a Chinese release was never in the cards as the Chinese have issues with ghost related entertainment, they don't like it.

I'm not so sure it's that as much as ghosts are depicted much differently in Asia than they are in the West. It's a cultural thing, which is why action movies tend to do well overseas, there's far fewer cultural differences to get over, you just enjoy the movie for the action. When you get something like Ghostbusters, it's going to be harder for audiences the further east you go, because of differences in the portrayal of ghosts & the supernatural, differences in humor a supernatural comedy is just going to be harder for non-Western audiences to relate ot.

The thing is kids movies always tend to do better than the other stuff, at least in the summer, as parents need to do something to keep the little monsters occupied and during the summer a lot of places have lower prices during the day to get families into the seats.

Secret Life of Pets made over $400 million. This movie kicked Feigbusters ass and is now getting a sequel. And rightfully so.

Feigbusters, not so much. LMAO.

With a budget of $75 million, the success of "The Secret Life of Pets" is pretty much beating, oh, a good 90% of the movies released this year so far. And I wouldn't count the new Ghostbusters out yet. There's still the multi-media market and Feig has already stated he's working on an extended cut of the film.

I try to pretend the second movie didn't happen so the timeline is the original movie and the video game.
I seem to be in the minority of the fanbase-- I'm didn't really like the video game all that much, story-wise. The game play was fun, but it would have made for a very weak canon sequel. Even Aykroyd's out-there ideas for GB3 read better than the GB:TVG story. People keep throwing around that it was written by Aykroyd and Ramis, but that's pretty far from the truth. They received credit, but really only punched up some dialog and techno babble-- they had nothing to do with the overall story.

I've always wondered why Aykroyd didn't sway them to adapt HELLBENT into the video game.

Having seen both The Secret Life of Pets and the new Ghostbustsers I feel that GB is the better of the two movies. SLoP was cute in some ways but it was certainly no Disney movie and was so so. GB I found to be surprsingly good and enjoyable and I was one of those here who thought it was going to suck and just be a scene for scene rehash of the original but with women in the roles instead of men. While it wasn't a gut busting, laugh out loud at most of the movie funny it was still pretty funny with some scenes that actually had me laughing out loud. The only 2 major flaws I found in it was the character of Kevin, funny character but a very chauvanistic character that would have gotten women all up in arms if they had a female character as dumb as he was. Second flaw was putting it in its own universe, there was no reason that they couldn't have made this movie a reboot-quel, all it would have taken was a few throw away lines to explain what happened to the original team and you're done. In fact, between Dany Akroyd's cameo and lines by the mayor and his assistant they could have easily set the movie in the original universe.

There's also one nitpick that I had in the movie, no Rick Moranis, they got all of the rest of the primary cast to make cameos, and they even figured out a way to have a Harold Ramis cameo but they couldn't get Rick. I realize that he's pretty much retired from acting but it would have been a nice gesture to the fans if he had returned for a brief cameo, a few lines and maybe half a day's work and done!

Now for something completely different:

https://mic.com/articles/150347/gho...stumes-are-here-and-sexist-as-hell#.Y7wxFJwwA

I guess the ghostbusters costumes are still sexist......and racist?!

Gotta take the article in cotext as its a female centric sytle/fashion article. But they lost me with the blackface line.

Ive said it before, It doesnt matter what sex/height/body type/race you are, just put everything you have into making your costume the best it can be and ignore the haters. If I really wanted to to Jones character from GB16, I would top it off with a silicone mask and embody her persona to the max. Any one remember the movie White Chicks? Tropic Thunder also comes to mind.

I just had another reboot image: Following the time square incident, the Mayor convenes with his secret board of paranormal supervisors. They made a mistake, putting the original team in witness protection was a bad idea.....time for them to suit up.

Lets create our own property damage with deadly force! people will really trust us and not sue us then!

sigh.

Interview with Moranis last fall, mentions why he turned the reboot cameo down, he said "I hope it's terrific. But it just makes no sense to me. Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago?"

I'm sure they offered him a truck load of money but i think he made enough to retire comfortably enough. I mean they couldn't even tempt him into voice actin as dark helmet in the space balls cartoon and you literally can phone that in these days.

I'm saving Redlettermedia Science man for how I like to watch all Redlettermedia vids... Home, drunk, and ready to laugh my ass off.

I truly love those guys.

I love that they can get internet famous making vids just TRASHING the prequels, then Mike Stoklasa watches TFA and announces, "I loved it. It was everything I hoped it would be" - AND HE'S PLINKET.

Everyone was expecting Plinket to tear it a new A-hole, but Mike loved it, and won't make a hate video just to appease fans. Plinket will likely tear it apart good and bad, but it will be like Trek 2009.. a kind of positive review.

It would be great to see a Plinket vid on GB16... but I think they've done enough ghostbusters... or maybe not... who knows?

My friend interviewed him for a documentary on second city and he said off camera that a major reason he retired is that he felt Hollywood worked his friend John Candy to death.
