I didnt see the full quote, all I saw was what Bryancd quoted. So maybe thats why you took it there and I didnt. Im still not sure what youre talking about then. Maybe I dont have that mindset to automatically think beyond what was said. "Somehow" can be a multitude of things...Maybe she paid people off to get people fired. Maybe she had the guts to do what others wouldnt. Maybe she was an insufferable B-word that told it like it was and got things done. Loaded with cultural misogyny? How can you imply all those things? It baffles me. Then again, I didnt see the entire post, Im just going off the quote.

I saw the post and folks are filling in the blanks with their own assumptions, which makes them look like misogynists if you ask me. I got what Neil meant, pretty much what you say here. A woman can be just as much of a back stabbing, self serving, insufferable undeserving talent-less hack as a man and get ahead today. Equality means you get the bad with the good.

My point EXACTLY. Its like they are trying to imply something with their own agenda because they want it to be there. Thats the part I dont get. Thank you for sharing your insight. :cheers

If that were the case then why did the Mods ask him to remove the offending remark and he acknowledged it was a mistake? It's over but you all keep bringing it up.

I'm still holding at $65M. It will squeak past Pets initially and flame out around $150M.

I like the Price is Right rules........closest to without going over haha.

I used the term "biased" because he's coming in to rip apart an article in defense of why everyone hates the trailer.. it wasn't a 3rd party with no feelings either way.

But I'm not sure why you're using the article as proof... It's not a Sony site... And it still doesn't answer the question. If you aren't a misogynist... and no one has called you one, why do you care if they tell the ones who are to F off?

"As the website Screencrush notes, the trailer’s unusual ratio of views to dislikes suggests a concerted campaign to vote down the video."

Not a claim by Sony or the studio... that is a website's call.

"Feig initially called much of the negative reaction to the casting of four women in the leads “vile misogynist ****”, but speaking to the Guardian last week, the director played down the backlash.“The haters on our trailer were very proud of the fact they had racked up 400,000 [currently 600,000] dislikes on YouTube versus 200,000 likes. But [given the number of views] that’s not a majority by anybody standards. Some of it is that people don’t want an old property touched – I’m sympathetic to that."

He called "MUCH" of the negative reaction... not ALL... not the majority... MUCH of.... "Some of it is that people don't want an old property touched". Also true.
And there is absolutely herd mentality in the downloading... just like people getting incensed about anything on the internet.

But the ones who are hating it because it’s about women? That’s just a non-starter.”

Sure... of course.

Feig pointed a finger at the media which amplify this negativity, and for funnelling “a small minority of voices into a sort of bullhorn”.

Exactly.

So I still don't know why Feig can't tell Misogynists to F-OFF... he was likely getting it from all ends on Twitter and snapped.

When I saw the GB trailer I had the same type of reaction that I had to Robocop... With Robocop it was "Really? Is that where they're going with this? He doesn't even get all shot to hell? Just a car explosion? He's got a black Iron Man suit? Well can't be worse than the second."

With this it was "Really? Why is everything neon? We're going for loud slapstick? The Logo is the big bad? Seems a little too Cartoony. Well can't be worse than the second".

This doesn't really hurt the original anymore than Robocop, or Karate Kid, or Totally not Recalling Mars... but the internet went nuts. This was going to be the punching bag... if it wasn't the 4 women I doubt it would have any more of an attack then Robocop or Star Trek Beyond or BVS had... if it was Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, Bill Hader and Craig Robinson, the hate would be heavy, but not like this.

No! Closest either way. :) 150M domestic likely comes close to covering their nut. Was that a gender insensitive way to say that? ;)

HA... yeah really. No it was pretty clear in it's intent.

You don't go and blame what is essentially your entire fanbase as sexist just because you can't take the heat of criticism for your poor film productions

I need to see evidence of THIS. I need to see something where Sony, or Feig state that the entire fanbase is sexist.

I'm not saying they didn't say this... I just need to see it.

Cause it keeps getting repeated... and I keep seeing articles claiming that the negative reaction is because everyone who hates it is sexist. the (by opinion or conclusion of the article writer) but I have never seen it said by Sony or Feig.

Again, not saying it hasn't been said. Just please someone post an article.

Quite frankly, I don't believe ANYTHING the old cast says about this new movie. I won't get into that other article posted...since it's a sensitive topic....
but this one, i still have that image in my head of a depressed ivan walking around sony studios not looking happy. and ernie hudsons deleted tweet within hours of posting...Dan Aykroyds health emergency and hospital stay... quite frankly says it all.

But ivan walking around sour...That, to me, is my image for what I THINK ALL the original cast has to say about this. it's not our ghostbusters, it's not their ghostbusters. but they, unlike us, are forced to defend it and HAVE to defend it. some just take a higher road than others.

what's interesting about this article, that i've never seen before, is the mention of rights changing.

SUPPOSEDLY, the way i read it just quickly glimpsing (i'm quite frankly sick to death of all this ghostbusters crap...the defaming and double back twisting talk ...the original cast not looking happy trying to sell it. the infighting...the flared tempers, fourth grade playground tactics).....

it seems like the old cast gave up their rights to the franchise so more could be made? or does that mean that they still get the same royalties, sony just has even more power?
in which case, this is officially RIP ghostbusters.

Yeah I'm totally sure Dan's health scare was related to this film. :facepalm

As mentioned in many of the articles and reviews, the gender of the women are never a major issue brought up in the film. Patty's "race thing or lady thing" quote and one stab at internet trolls, is pretty much it. Bill says they look like they belong on the back of a garbage truck, but that's a joke about their overalls.

There may have been more gender quips like that trailer scene where Gilbert punches that guy, which is another trailer scene not in the final cut.

So as for this being some feminist propaganda by Sony and Paul that folks STILL keep latching onto, I'm really not seeing it, and I've seen it twice this week.

Anyone have any snaps from the first evening showings of attendance yet?

I think the first screenings happen at 7...some at 8. so unless they take one right before, it's way too early for that.

Only the die hards and former die hards like us would think about postingto twitter ;o)

Let me get this right... I see (and point out) a sexist comment and that makes me sexist? Firstly: logical fallacy, secondly: You are barking up the wrong branch there, sister.

Seeya kids! off to a festival with no internet... only music and drinking...

Enjoy the flick! or not!

I'll check it out when back... maybe. Or like most movies, once it hits week two I'm like "well may as well wait for Blu-ray now"

"Dogs and Cats, living together"

If only.

Certainly, among folks who bashed the trailer on YouTube, there were those who were obscenely mysoginistic. However, to presume those comments represent every person, or even every male person, who might have a legitimate beef with the trailer is rather sexist in and of itself.

But who other than the media presumed this. This blanket statement that Sony and Feig said all negative comments are misogynists and called everyone sexist - someone please post link. Cuz all I've seen are articles where they state sexists can get lost.

I'm going...I'm going...
