GEOmetric Worf & Gowron Display

Well I started playing with the second upload service!
With no visible instructions or links to instructions or links to anybody to give instructions it was a matter of trail and error, mostly error! I finally figured how to get my upload from there to a thread so now we see!
As a test to see how the pictures look, compared to the other service, I have chosen another little display I put together some years back!

I have always liked the Klingons, I think because they remind me of the Samurai of Feudal Japan in their spirit and their sense of honor!
And of them all I thought Gowron (portrayed by Robert O'Reilly) with his strange bulging eyes was the most charismatic!
I had the pleasure of meeting J.G. Hertzler, who portrayed General Martok, at a Comic Con in Novi Michigan some time back. He claimed that Robert O'Reilly was nothing more then an over rated hack, obviously a little friendly rivalry going on there! (I hope!)

The theme of the display is simple to anyone who watched DS9!
To those who did not Worf and Gowron did not get along to well and spent most of their time butting heads (sorry)! In fact it is Worf who eventually kills Gowron then claims the Chancellor hood for Martok!
The final battle did not look anything like what is pictured but I figured being Klingons they may have had many mock and not so mock battles to prove their metal!
I was taking Martial Arts at the time and thought a dojo styled display would add flavor and give me the chance to make some Klingon weapons to hang on the wall as show pieces!
Worf is as he came out of the box except I replaced his Bat'leth with a plastic copy as vinyl tends to droop! Gowron came with a knife and a holstered Disruptor (both metal) which I did not use. I gave him a Bat'leth also, keep it evenly matched.
Then I made a couple Mek'leths (Worf pulls one out fighting the Borg on the hull of the Enterprise in First Contact), two long spears, a double sided battle ax and a "copy" of Kahless's Bat'leth, if you watch DS9 you will know that the "real" one was found, then abandoned by Worf, Jadzia and Kor, played by the late John Colicos ! A trivia point here John Colicos was the first actor to portray a Klingon lead in the episode "Errand of Mercy" on the original Star Trek! And for you Battlestar Gallactica fans he was the original Baltar!
All the weapons are cannon! They have all appeared in TNG or DS9 at one point or another! They are also removable from the wall!
Now the wall itself! It started out as a plain grey wall with the Klingon emblem but I thought it stark and boring! After watching a show about Marble then seeing an episode where Kahless and Molor are mentioned it hit me!
Legend says that Kahless killed the tyrant Molor using the first Bat'leth!
So I decided that on that spot were Molor's blood was spilled Klingon Marble was born!
So I hand painted the wall blending colors to try and get the essence of Marble, but with an alien feel! The main problem was no one at Paramount could decide what color Klingon blood was so I ran thin lines of green and a reddish/pink throughout the wall! Overall I was very pleased with the second attempt!
Anyway, I am sure there a lot of you reading this going "is this guy for real?" Well yes and no! For everyone on this BB there is something about what they do that appeals to "them", some don't even know what "that" is but they do it anyway! For me it's the fantasy or the story behind the object!
So I'm nuts, I'm having a good time (usually) and I'm not hurting anybody, which is more than I can say for some! So enjoy what I have shown, make comments if you want and have some fun!
Later all, Petseal

No comments, suggestions, nothing! I am surprised and a little disappointed! :confused
I thought for sure I would get something about writing a novels! :confused
I did discover that although the first upload service is smaller I like the idea of seeing the picture right away! So I at least learned something from this venture!
Later all all all all (anyone out there):sleep, Petseal

Its a very nice diarama. The build and paint up of the figures are really nice. I think that if you punched up the floor it might look even cooler ;)

Great idea! Displaying these two together is a perfect idea. I have both those kits...I'll have to try something similar!

Hi Jedi Dade
My biggest concern was getting too busy so I kept the floor plain! I was originally going to go lighter but that seemed off for what I had seen in the Klingon worlds!
I suppose instead of putting the Klingon emblem predominately on the wall I could have made a faded, worn version on the floor! Even one styled like those used in the time of Kahless! This might have given it an aged look as if many feet had spared on this surface!
I like that, nice imagery!
And BlindSquirrel please feel free to use any inspiration you see here!
Thanks for your input, it is appreciated, Petseal

Or you could use the blood smear of Kahless's fallen foe as the inspiration for the "modern" symbol. Yaknow the blood smear(s) roughly are the same shape as the symbol today ;) or just made the floor Tiles rock or something. Its just that the rest of the diarama is detailed that the flat floor kind of stands out. Not a dig - I really do think its very nice!

Hello Jedi Dade, no dig taken just honest, useful criticism,
As far as "the blood smear(s) roughly are the same shape as the symbol today ;)" I think it's a great idea!
Two problems though, like I mentioned in the description no one seems to know what color Klingon blood is!
If I remember correctly in the series usually when a Klingon bleed it was a yucky green! But in The Undiscovered Country there are globs of this pinkish/red floating around until gravity was restored then it just looked like paint!
And secondly a crude version of the tri-foil symbol is etched onto Kahless's Bat'leth "before" there epic fight! Check the point in the front of the Bat'leth in the last picture! I like to stay as close to cannon as I can, even though this whole display would not be true cannon!
I was also taught not to over do it ether! If it gets too busy it can become distracting and your "eye" has a hard time focusing on the main subject!
I think my biggest problem with dioramas is thinking in three dimensions! I started out as an artist/commercial artist working in two dimensions so we were taught ways to lead the eye "into" the "focus" or the "selling point"! This concept is a lot easier to do in 2-D then in 3-D!
So I tend to under compensate for fear of over powering the mind with to much information! If you have ever walked into a store with so much stock that it is impossible to focus on one object then you will understand what I mean! It becomes a mind rush!!!!!!!!!!!!
But luckily I like to build my displays to come apart! And I think I may have an idea that would fit the topic and not become a distraction!
If I take it apart and slowing sand the top down in an uneven pattern it might get "that worn down over the ages" type look! It was already a different color so if I go down to bare wood in places I should end up with a nice aged look to it!
Great, another project! Later, Petseal

I like your diorama! I've got both the kits somewhere, I'll have to dig them out and do a repaint! The skintones look really good, and I like the back wall. I really like the Bat'leths and the Mek'leths you made. The replica you made of Kahless's Bat'leth is really awesome. I met J.G. Hertzler and Robert O'Riley at a con in West Virginia. They were fun to hang out with, at a party one night they both been drinking a good bit, and the Klingon rivally got even worse!:lol When signing autographs, they both tried to sign bigger than the other, but I think it was all in fun.
It seems like I saw a Klingon bleeding a reddish purple in one episode but I can't remember for sure. I don't know what they were thinking when they gave the Klingons Pepto-Bismal for blood in Undiscovered Country.:sick The only thing I would do is maybe give the floor some kind of stone texture, just enough to break up the one color. Everything else looks great! :thumbsup Would like to see some more pics, if possible.

Hi Bill,
That sounds awesome, a night to remember! :love
I have not met Robert O'Riley, YET, but I look forward to doing so! It will be interesting just to hear how he describes J.G. Hertzler! :angel
According to Memory Alpha...
"O'Reilly is a close friend of J.G. Hertzler. The two are to appear in Douglas: The Christmas Movie which is to be released later this year."
So I think we were both right in believing the rivalry is for show!
As far as the base goes I will probably try the sanding down trick first just because it sounds easy, but I have no idea when I will get to it!
I have so many projects I want to do that I can't keep em straight in my head! And to be totally honest since joining this board I have gained so many more that are not Star Trek related! What's a boy to do? :confused
Type to ya later, Petseal
