hey. does anyone know what the law is on making a replica guitar from a game, say brutal legend, and selling it for profit?

a friend is thinking about doing it but i thought id find out if there was anything stopping him.

if you could PM me that would be fantastic

cheers

I'm not 100% sure but I think recreating anyone's work and selling it without permission is against the law. Unless you contact the makers of Brutal Legend and ask for permission, I doubt you can actually do it without any fear of legal action.
Most people here re-create props as a tribute to the things they love. They sometimes sell the items (usually items that aren't commercially available through any approved vendor) in a very limited quantity to a select group of fans and for the most part the film, television, video game, etc. companies overlook it.
Now, if you set up a shop in downtown LA with a 12 foot reproduction of the Brutal Legend guitar on the front and advertise that you are selling copyrighted merchandise... you may run into trouble.
