Patsmear got me really thinking about Gene's leggings as he builds up his version of dragon boots in his thread:

I have some shells myself:

Patsmear's thread has given me a little motivation to just see if I could really get mine done too.
I really want some scales that look is if they could pass for real. I'm not all about 100% accuracy, there's that fine line and I truely admire the guys (and gals) here who can really nail "accurate".
I told Pat I'd get some images. It would be ubber cool if anyone else would contribute to this thread with their pics and ideas as I ponder how to make my scales. Naturally, if my forum search missed this info for me, and these have already been covered, just lemme know. I hate to re-invent the wheel :lol
being a KISS fan since around 1985, I got my images from some old Teen Beat mags (or whatever they were) scanned.
I found some good shots online this week too, ranging from all the years of scales.
There is one pic that I am not positive wheter or not they are fanmade, or real however.
I put the comps together, highlighted areas that stick out to me.
Rylo was soooo right about how Gene would halfway do cheesy repairs. Look at that Creatures style pic that shows about an inch of lift off that left foot dragon nose...not to mention the busted scales and the cracks.
I really want scales that are in disarray like his vintage ones. There's really no real pattern, they lay random, and I like how they point outwards in some spots.
I still cannot help but believe the "raised lip/edge" of each (vintage) scale is something just "put on". Perhaps they used a squeeze bottle of fabric paint or somoething. Heck, I see girls all the time who make t-shirts and the way they draw on em, the stuff is puffy and thick.
Some of the pics, I circled areas that appear to indicate stitching.
The Destroyer era pic (in the snow) shows the bottom edge of the leggins and how they'd fit into the shell.
The scales for Psycho Circus era really look mold-made...they're just too perfect.
The pic of the Psycho Circus scales (from a KISS Cafe I think) show a clear pigskin-style material. However, other pics you can see they are just a typical leather style material.
Thoughts?
