GB1 Nomex Flightsuit - to dye?

So I posted this on GBfans, but I'm curious...I have a nomex suit, but watching the movie the other night, it struck me how grey the suits are, as opposed to the "natural" nomex colour which is a brown, almost salmon coloured. Is it common for people to dye their suits? Where the movie suits dyed, or was it just filters and/or lighting that added a grey tint?

The movie suits were made from rip-stop cotton material in the first movie, you can try to dye the nomex but the dye doesn't always take due to the flame resistant fabric in the nomex I believe. There is a thread on GBfans were some one is usuing the correct material and having flight suits made (if you ask me the fabric color is still a bit off), pretty sure the cotton rip-stop wasn't nomex.

it's funny, because the nomex seems to be the standard suit...i'm wondering if mine ended up being a different shade or something, because it just looks brown instead of grey.

Aha! Those dyed suits look great! I wonder what the best way to cover the velcro strips would be, to stop them from darkening in the dye?

I chose to dye a new Nomex suit after dying my first suit which was a used nomex suit, I personally like the look of the dyed suit. I think the dyed suits look better in pictures and face to face then do the khaki colored suits. I believe it has been discovered that the actual GB1 flight suits were khaki colored rip-stop material flight suits and although this has been decided to be screen accurate I still opt out for the dyed suit. Even though the dyed suit may not be accurate it most closely resembles the suits in the movie (to me). I also believe the gray tint in the suits in the movie was do to lighting.

Here are 2 pictures of what my dyed nomex suit looks like:

The first picture is at night with flash and the second picture is outside in natural sunlight.

WOW madeinsocal, that suit is top notch!!!!

So really? You are saying new evidence shows the GB suits were not dyed in the original? The GB2 suits def. look more like the standard Nomex beige to me.

GB2 suits were a custom fabric. The studio sent the fabric over to Gibson and Barnes to have the flight suits made. Not entirely sure if any one has figured out the fabric yet for GB2
