And it's only taken me 4 years to finally do it. A lot of you RPF oldsters are already familiar with my pack... I brief synopsis for those who aren't...

This pack was built along with two others, by myself and two friends of mine. (One for each of us) It's all scratch built primarily from wood. Off and on it took me roughly three years to finish. Right after I finished the pack I had a plexiglas case made for it with the idea that one day I would build a base to set it on.

Well, one day turned into 4 years but I finally got around to putting it together and I'm pretty darn happy with the results. :)

Seriously awesome! :thumbsup

What sort of rig do you have holding the pack up? Is the grayish stand part of the base?

I've always thought using a mannequin or wall-mount was the best way to display my pack, but now I'm sold on your freestanding plexi-case. Great job!

I'm in the same boat right now...looking for a wall mount case for my pack, very nice display!
Need to keep my pack off the floor and under glass...dusting this thing is a pain.

Thanks, guys! :)

KiDL,
Yes, the gray base is like the "pedestal" for the plexi case. It doesn't show in the pics but the base actually has a metallic weathered look to it. The pack itself is freestanding. I've displayed it that way sense it was completed. It's leaning back on the alicepack frame. It's pretty sturdy, believe it or not. :)

I'd thought about the wall display as well, but with the weight of the pack combined with the weight of the case itself, I thought it'd be safer and less of a hassle to have it freestanding. :)

Ok, now that I'm done gawking at your display, how about some info on your pack! :)

Well, if you insist... ;)

Mine was built along with two others, one of which was made to be left-handed. As I mentioned before, we built our packs primarily from wood & pvc pipe.

(Looking at that mess, I'm suprised we EVER got these done! :lol )

These are pics of mine in various stages of assembly. We used a really thick primer tinted gray to cover the wood grain. It was a long process of priming, puttying and sanding to get the texture I wanted. I custom made the labels and weathered them to match the reference we were using. The weathering on the pack was done using an x-acto blade to chip off the black exposing the gray primer underneath.

And the final product. :) We used actual parts for much of the detail items, like the clippards, resistors and such. Other parts, like the aluminum gun tip, orange button on the gun, and light covers we made ourselves. They're wired for lights and sound as well.

This was really one of those "love it, hate it" projects, but the outcome is one of my most prized possessions!
Thanks for looking!

The long and winding road comes to an end! I hope to be right there next to you in a few weeks with my final pack/display as well. Congrats Beeb - you did a great job on the prop and the display! I'm looking into starting a new forum for a couple GB active projects... PKE and trap... I'll be looking to you to be there! Again, great work!

Thanks, buddy! I look forward to seeing your finished pack, as well! Any more updates on that awesome gun? I'm looking forward to the active projects as well. :)

Great build up, and nice display...

Not too out of line for a good build up, sometimes things just take some time :) ...

I have been collecting parts for 3+ years now and as of today have not done one bit of assembly on my pack... I hope that changes shortly as I have finally sourced either real parts or machined metal alternatives for the whole pack/gun and really want to put it all together...

Why it ended up taking so long to build the pack was the fact that we were trying to build them together. We'd run into conflicting schedules throughout the build that would pull us off for a month or two at the time. Also, if I got to feeling the least bit burned out while working on it, I'd set it aside until I felt like working on it again. The last thing I wanted to do was rush it and mess it up. I feel like it was worth the wait. :)

You'll have to post pics once you get yours finished!
