Gary Kurtz on George Lucas

Sorry, you're right, Michael... Raiders celebrates its thirtieth anniversary next year, doesn't it?

Oh, Mic.

Why do you take it to heart?

And I'm not a hater, I just don't eat up garbage.

This is becoming entertaining.

Interesting article.

No one has more respect for what Lucas has accomplished than I do.

That said, I don't think it comes as news to any of us that Lucas stumbled creatively following the release of Empire.

I've gotten to know Richard Edlund socially over the last couple of years, and his take on Lucas/ Star Wars is essentially the same as Kurtz's.

According to Richard, George Lucas would listen to exactly three people when it came to creative matters related to Star Wars: Gary Kurtz, Marcia Lucas, and Francis Coppola. Once they were no longer around to bounce ideas off of (or to offer the occasional "no") Lucas lost his storytelling bearings.

I can find something to enjoy about just about any Star Wars movie (even the crappy ones), but the original Star Wars and Empire are in a league of their own. Fans have long suspected Gary Kurtz may have had something to do with this, and it's good to see him putting his thoughts on record.

Now if someone could just get Marcia to dish...
