Game of Thrones | Tyene Sand

Hi hi!

I've wanted to do a GoT costume for SO LONG but no characters spoke to me. Until the Sand Snakes appeared. My favourite was quickly decided (plus I've got short dark hair..why not?!)

I've ordered a large piece of leather and I am ASSUMING that they are wearing the same 'base' armour. The shoulders vary, but it's about the patterns.

I can cut this one to the detail I need.

The headscarf is no problem. I've got experience with tying those things ;P

So Tyene's ...legflaps??? are a bit brighter in colour, but the same shape. The armour seems the same as well, though Tyene has some belts across it.

The patterning. I think it's the same for all three, but one has shoulderguards, the other has different belts and Tyene has crossed belts.

Am I wrong in this assumption? If you know, please do tell.

I am also thinking of sculpting the daggers either out of wood or clay and cast them. Not sure yet. I think about doing the leg flaps with waxed cotton (like I did my Khan coat) rather than using leather for it. It seems slightly different in texture and it might cut in costs if I do it that way. Many people mistake my coat for leather so the effect is there.

:)

Yes. No panic. Deathwing is still happening...but as I've said, that's a slow, long-term project.

So the leather came in and it's a lot thinner than I expected. I've ordered another split which has been treated, as they seem to be a bit thicker. But at least the leg part will be leather now as well. It's going to look cool and I'm excited to get started!

So I cut out flaps.

drew some miniature patterns as a draft.

tried some tooling and basic work on a small scrap.

Made the flaps wet, and folded the top over, which I'll use to wear with a cord or belt.

Tomorrow the other split of leather will come in. I'm excited. I'm having a hard time to find a triangular stamping tool though...

So... I found a bigger resolution pic of Tyene

It seems her armour is a little different than the one I thought. Her 'ribcage' seems to be a separate piece. Will need to work that out with other patterns. The good part is that the base 'still works'. I just might have to divide it or use a different detail on top. I hope the next Season will show more of their armour..

Long time, no see. But there's progress!

I got myself a woodburner, due to a tip of a friend on how to get the pattern/texture working.
Safe to say... I'm happy with that!

Test piece looks good. Now to prepare the actual armour.

(Do open your windows when you're doing this. Or be outside. It smells terrible!)

But I also need to 'form' the armour. I didn't know if people did it before or after texturing. I did it half-way through. It won't impact my steady hand that much, and as it's leather, it can be bent and forced down in a way. As you can see, I split the armour in half to get the ribcage too. This makes it also less lumpy for me.
But you know... forming armour to my shape means boobs. I didn't really have a form to go over so..

I went with one boob at a time :lol

It's not the best way to do it, but it worked.

(did I mention I like testing things out first?)

Here I'm forming it to my chest/ribs

..... kinda.

it needs some adjustments, but with limited resources and tools, I just have to roll with whatever I have.

Looks good.

I wouldn't have thought about burning the design into the armor. Is that quicker than tooling it with a triangular stamp?

Its looking good so far and should be a popular and practical costume at the summer collector shows . Did you try Shapeways for the stamp ?

No, I did look at the method, but burning was so much quicker and also gives it the darkened effect, that I went with that. Maybe in the future I'll create an actual-stamped leather costume. :)

Is shaping it halfway through decorating going to cause you any issues with the rest of the burning ?

Subscribed! I fell in love with these girls instantly, but am so disappointed at how little screen-time they got. Amazing work!

Thanks! I'm hearing a lot of people who are disappointed with their lack of screentime and how they messed up the Dorne storyline..
