Last year I did a G1 9.1 scale Optimus Prime toy build, wearing it to Halloween locally as well as the 2014 Calgary Comic Expo for April 26th: http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y470/Martaxus/MainPose_zps0079f72e.jpg It seems a logical idea to do his opposite character, but as the toy wasn't exactly ergonomic I'm going with the original cartoon version.
It's been a tedious matter to establish measurements from cartoon screenshots and map out a design & cut list, but here we are with the assembled 1st draft for Megatron's chest!
As this moves forward, backlit lights will be added for the communicator triangles plus the circles & squares on the stomach. The Decepticon symbol will be doubled in size. A slight divot will be cut at the top center for Meg's 'neck' width. All gaps in the cardboard will be sealed. The codpiece will be attached just below the stomach detail, made with black EVA foam.
Here are the main reference pics I've been working from: http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y470/Martaxus/Cartooncollage_zpsd9695aae.jpg
Here is the 1st draft at this time: http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y470/Martaxus/Frontviewassembledampdetailed_zps37cc5694.jpg
And a side shot for perspective: http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/y470/Martaxus/Sideangle_zps1c4a69e1.jpg
The dimensions were arrived at partly from my Optimus Prime rig, then also by checking my range of motion wearing the right arm prototype. Any larger would reduce my range of motion. In addition, the piece will be extended back towards the body by 3cm on the sides. The sides of the stomach will be painted red. This will be worn with a red long-sleeve shirt.
What do you think? I've tried to build the arrangements on 1/6 & 1/3 proportions to please the eye, but if you can suggest anything else please let me know. This is the time to shoot holes in my design...I intend to wear this on Halloween and then again to the 2015 Calgary Comic Expo.
(I've been working on the arm & cannon as well, but that's another story)
Thanks for any comments!
