FX Lightsaber & A Soldering Iron

Hi Folks

If you have the guts, this is an effective way to use the original blades to create and unstable blade look.

The result is very effective and when it cools it is rock solid so good for cleaning with a tooth brush and display. I removed the diffusers first by removing the pins from the cross guard. Once done I then took a soldering iron on a high heat and made the flame effect. It takes a touch of skill to leave the iron on the blade long enough to melt and drag the plastic up and across. I like the longer spikes which are very solid.

I would like to say it easy, but if you feel that you do not have the appropriate skill and are worried that you may go through or ruin your blades then do not attempt. This took about 45 mins for each blade and I am going to do the main blade next. I will also be rubbing down the paint before creating that used look seen in the film for the hilt.

I have a few burn marks that are easily removed via a scalpel. If you do attempt, clean your soldering iron every 5 mins to prevent the transfer of burnt plastic.

This is for my Kylo Ren build (501) so I wanted the unstable blade look on a permanent basis.

I have been modding the paint job, far to clean for my liking and also painted the cross saber with a first few coats. The paint I used is glass paint so is colourful but remains transparent. I still have a few more highlights to sort through the central points but you get the picture.

I painted it because I am building a 501 level 2 Kylo Ren which will be on display over a mannequin in my cinema room, so I wanted the blades to be colourful without the saber being turned on!

That looks great! I'm wondering tho... Do the aftermarket saber blades fit the fx/black series? In case you'd want to go back to stock?

I am not sure about after market blades TBH. I will not be going back to stock, hence the effort I'm putting in to this

Wow the arms on the top of the saber are looking a lot better when they are painted.:)
The bladeeffect looks great...do you wanna make the big blade also with this?
But I think this updated blades are looking more like a "Fire-Sword"...in the movie the instable effect was not so extreme.

I have just started on the main blade. The flame effect is slightly exaggerated otherwise ther is no point in doing it. Different pictures show different degrees of sparking etc.

I think on the painted pics the effect is heavyer as in the movie. Its hard to create the effect because in the movie it was in motion.
