Funkster's Foam Fartgun Fun - finished

So I'm off the MCM in Birmingham (UK) this weekend and will be busting out my Minion costume

So I very last minute decided to try and make a fartgun, as used in Despicable Me 2.
The commercially available ones are ok, but not in proportion to my costume.

I'm basing my design on the one that can be bought from Universal Studios and a screen grab, but I should stress, it's not going to be 100% screen accurate

First step was crafting the main pieces.

As I've been playing with foam over the summer, I have an abundance of different types

Cones are made from LD45 and one from yoga mat, butt of the gun is garage floor mats, central section is Decathlon interlocking mats and pipes....are just pipes.

So they've been glued and coated in PVA

Tonight, I'll be priming and thinking about the "glass bulb/cylinder" section on the top of the gun

First, you get kudos for 2014's best forum post title. Second, can't wait to see the finished project!

So, was a little rushed last week, but here goes

After sealing the foam with PVA I made a make shift spraying booth out of 5 EVA Mats
The cone/horn section was painted using car spray paint and the butt of the gun using Plasti-kote.
As I was a little rushed making it, the seams were a noticable, but not enough time to sort them

Next I cut the tops of two 2L Pepsi Bottles and pushed them together to make the central chamber.
This was then primed and sprayed silver along with some plastic pipe and corner joints - cut some foam out to make "brackerts", which also helped cover the join

Worried about rigidity, I cut a circle out of 10mm EVA interlocking mats and placed these in each of the 3 cone sections.
Then a piece of wooden dowel through the centre so all 3 were more stable

Made an edging/joining strip for each cone to cover my bad gluing

The grill section the front caused no end of issues.

Tried card and a criss cross pattern, but had problems getting small squares and circles, so in the end end some yoga matting that had a criss cross surface to it

Tube section on the side was some pipe insulation over some dowel, cut to size and then sprayed with the silver and black spray

Handle was more dowel/pipe insulation covered with some craft foam
No trigger as I thought I be forever knocking it

Lastly a couple of Gru logos cut out and stuck on, some drawing pins for rivets and some silver paint around the horn to cover some scratches

Build time = about 10 hours
Cost = about £25 on spray paint and then lots of foam I had lying around

Finished shots

Held up really well all day and by the end I was giving to the people who wanted pics to hold

Must have posed for easily 800+ pictures on Saturday and when the "other 2" came out it went crazy
