Full size scratch built female android

Hi guys,

I thought I'd show you what I've been working on over the least nine weeks: a female android.

She is made from fibreglass and resin. The skull was sculpted in chavant and cast in fibreglass, same for the chest and back. The pelvis was sculpted in polyurethane foam and vac-formed. One vertebrae was made in chemiwood and then cast in resin, same for the arms and shoulders.

This model was made to commincate the contrast in man and machine. It is based on a design by Par Tingstrom, heavily developed to suit my purposes.

Hope you like her..

Thanks wackyshimp for the hosting.

Neil,
Very ccol job.

The underskull reminds me a monkey origins.

Does it move or do anything on the control pannel?

Might be fun to add a SONY face plate from I robot for the mask.

Great Job.

Neil...

Great to see you back here mate.
WOW - immensely impressive work on the android - I'll bet you're getting top marks on the course aren't you.

Cheers,

Chris

That is incredible. I love the simian features of the robot face too, it covers how ae evolved to man, the diferences between man and machine and subtly eludes to how machines are always portrayed as evolving to become more human too. :)

Wonderful piece of art -- very thought provoking. It reminds me a lot of the robots Paul Catling did for Bjork's All Is Full of Love.

Thanks for the kind words..

The simian features of the android's skull were kind of an accident. I had to adapt Par's design to fit the human face plate and the blue resin skull that lies beneath (reducing the cranium height and widening the eyes slightly).

This project involved a huge learning curve for me. I am much more a hard edged model maker than a figurative sculptor, and I think this really shows in the end result. :)

Tom, the control panel is just for the lights - in operates the eyes, brain and heart lighting. Just a bit of fun so the tutors don't have to mess about too much with the model ;-)

Chris, cheers buddy. Good to hear from you... email me your number again...I only have your work one.

That's 650 hours...in 9 weeks :cry

That one is alarmingly cool... WOW. :eek

I absolutely love the use of contrasting colors - the black-ish endoskeleton and the white-ish outer shell. :thumbsup

EDIT: So, the female mask fits onto the droid skull? That would look absolutely evil with those shiny blue eyes through that pristine and calm face. :D

Beautiful work Neil. I really like the separated armor/plates around the head, allowing the light to show. Reminds me of the Bjork music video robots - a design which I loved. This is just too cool.

Wow. Looks like you're really taking advantage of your degree program. Excellent scratch build man. No critical remarks here. :thumbsup

OMG.. He's the creator of Terminatrix T-801. Well, I can see some parts, which are definitely inspired - the vertebra, the shoulder joint, the hip, ulna, hands and the neck part. Ohh what a cold heart she posses.

When do you make her naked :D?

WOW. That is an awesome sculpt. She's sexy, in kind of a disturbing way. :p I really like it. She looks better than a lot of the androids that have been featured on the covers of some magazines lately. Very slick and professional. (I want one.) ;) :thumbsup
