I was strolling in the local Habitat for Humanity ReStore and found this 1950's era Black & Decker drill, which I fell in love with as a sexy object. Somehow I purchased it, and gutted it for parts to use in my Hellboy Rasputin Ragnarok Glove (comic version) project, but I still had a sexy thing in search of a found prop WIP reason for an existence... and so...
Ted Kord's Blue Beetle Gun, [Mark I Prototype].
I cut two guide tracks into the top of the main body and then fabricated a fin to lock in from sheet aluminum. I plan to weather the fin to match the body a bit better - you can't tell in my washed out picture but it's just a touch light from being squealy-new. I dropped in some glazed, corrugated plastruct styrene as a temp lens. The plan is to sculpt a vented and corrugated convex lens piece in trans blue tone, and wire the trigger to an appropriate turbine mix effect soundchip and a flash bulb on the interior. The fin and the trigger are both really satisfying in that when pulled the trigger makes the fin sing like a tuning fork (the trigger has a hard click ball bearing mechanism which is great, and the trigger locking push pin on the bottom acts as a safety).
So yeah, good shopping day!
