Are they watching "Friends" reruns in that second photo? :lol
But seriously, how did I not hear about this? I thought something like this would make the news here in Hong Kong but I haven't heard a peep. Either I missed it completely or it was kept pretty low key around here...
The show had its ups and downs, but I've always been a big Friends fan, enjoyed the antics of all six characters through the years, even bigger Ross Geller fan and loved the Ross & Rachel roller coaster .
So it's great to see someone taking their love for the show and turning into something so cool. Besides the WB studio set of Central Perk, I always wondered if somebody would ever consider re-creating this cafe. And it's good to read how the show affected the owner Du Xin which lead to this cafe. He indeed reminded me of Gunther when I first saw his photo.
I remember reading about another Central Perk that opened up in Dubai several years ago...The actor that played Gunther was even there for the grand opening...But from the pics I've seen of it, the interior is not a true replica of the TV set.

I shared this story on FB and my friend who used to live in Dubai just mentioned about that Dubai cafe. He shared the video below which has James Michael Tyler (Gunther) talking about it.

Though the Dubai cafe has legally acquired the title and franchise, it does not screen match. My friend said he hasn't visited the place and only driven by it, and that the reviews of the place haven't been great either.
This Beijing cafe is a labor of love and it shows.
