Just wanted to post some pics of a project that Tom (Wampa) and I worked on. Tom did the bulk of the work by sculpting the face, teeth and making the eyes. I was left with just applying the fur and making the horns. This was a fun project because this is NOT the Wampa everyone is used to, this is the Wampa made by Stuart Freeborn :) I included a pic below to show what the actual prop looked like.

This was a great project to work on with Tom and I hope to team up on a lot more projects in the future :)

Man, when do you sleep?

:)

I think he's like General Custer, takes a couple hour nap and then rides on. :lol

That's fantastic. I love it when to superb artists collaberate on something previously unseen, those eyes are just...weird.

That's cool mounted on a wall like a trophy kill. You need a TaunTaun next to it.

I never realized the wampa had a piggy nose. :lol

Thanks for the kind words. We weren't sure how many people would recognize this one, since it was mostly cut from the film (the only surviving shot is when he rushes Luke just before the arm chop, but his hands block much of the face).

The Phil Tippett puppet and the SE costume are more recognizable but I've got the good fortune of owning some small pieces from that original Freeborn costume (an eye, teeth, fur and claws) and have a real appreciation for this particular version of the creature I chose my board ID for.

There was just something "cute" about that Freeborn wampa.

Richie's downplaying his efforts on this one. He scratch built the horns, the ears and the overall head form. He he layed the fur to match the original and most importantly, weathered it expertly to boot.

I'm really pleased with the outcome of our combined efforts and can assure you all there will be others in the future. :)

I think when all is said and done you two would've virtually recreated every single creature in the Star Wars trilogy. :)

Simply awesome work guys.

The outer layer on these has a slight refractive quality. It's magnified in photos but in reality, it's pretty subtle unless the light hits it just right.

The original eyes were pretty much just hand painted, big blue eyes with a very off-white sclera and a clear cover. Made to be seen in brief flashes in the flim.

As this was going to be a static display, we tweaked that, adding the refractive domes for a little more dimension and interest.
