Free Guy “Guy” Costume

With Free Guy finally in theaters, I thought it appropriate to compile what I’ve found regarding Guy’s outfit/s from the film.

Belt: I believe this is a Perry Ellis product, but not one I could pinpoint exactly. Both of these belts contain the accurate details found on Guy’s belt, so I believe it was an “in-between” production example:

Pants: These are definitely Rag and Bone #2 fit:

Jacket: definitely a Member’s Only jacket, although the collar has been modified and the epaulettes removed:

Watch: Guy wears a Casio F-91W, which is inexpensive and very easy to acquire:

Something weird about the pants is that the pair worn in the film differs from the Rag and Bone pair worn for the promotional images/posters:

They seem to have a small black tag on the right rear pocket. Closest matches I’ve found so far:

Great work so far =)

I stumbled across this tie on another thread (not on here, can't remember OP) about the tie, and this came up: What do you think about this as an alternative?

What do you think about this as an alternative?

I believe that’s actually the tie used in the film! I compared it to the all the photos, and it seems to match up perfectly:

Great finds! I just started trying to ID things myself before I found this post.

I didn't realize there were different pants in the movie than the rag & bone ones, but I did find that it does appear that the rag & bone chinos are used onscreen, in the climactic fight scene. I took a screen grab from one of the trailers online (actually, I think it was the one where they interview "Dude"). It shows that they not only removed the tie and name badge, but the belt as well, which shows the buttons that match the rag & bone pants:

Also, the rag & bone pants have had the black belt loop on the back removed, as you can see in the promo shot.

Looks like there's two main pairs of shoes he wears (except the "jump" shoes). Both match the pants.

The first ones are from his bank teller outfit. They're tan/beige suede chukka boots with light wood colored soles, and it appears that there are 6 eyelets. I haven't been able to ID'd the exact ones. I can't seem to find ones that are the right color suede with the right color and type of soles, with the same details/stitching and the correct number of eyelets.

I thought it was an ankle high boot, not a shoe, but I could be wrong. I can't really tell from the pic. At any rate, those Bruno Marc shoes don't look close enough to my eye. The colors look too dark, both the suede and the sole, and ut looks like it's missing the extra detail piece on the back, above the heel. I did search for some beige Oxfords as well as for chukkas - they seem to be the same in terms of style.
I found these cheap ones thst seemed closer, though still not exact:

I checked the scene in the trailer that the spotern site took a screen grab from - it is indeed a shoe, not a boot, looks like 4 sets of eyelets:

Still searching for something close. I'm wondering if the shoe was actually gray and the dyed it to match the pants. I've been looking at gray shoes too. It's weird how something so simple looking is so hard to find an exact or close match.

He wears them starting when he decides to wear the Henley, reverts to the other ones for a brief moment later on, then returns to Rag and Bone pair when wears the more stylish blue button up through to the end.

I just received my tie and also the cnc produced name tag.

I measured the length of my own index finger, from knuckle to first joint, which was about 5 cm, and the height of the name tag was about 80% of that.

Based on that, I guesstimated it to be about 4 cm, but since this is a US made movie, 1,5"sounds like an option. (3,8 cm).

The length was judged after doing a 3d model and rotating to match, and about 7 cm seemed to work pretty good. Might be 3 inches or slightly under for you with imperial units.

The name tag shown below is 40 mm by 70 mm.

The font was chosen after putting a layer above a screen cap and finding the closest font. This is fairly close I think.

Any comments?

Also, the jacket is being advertised everywhere as leather. Weren't Members Only jackets nylon/synthetic,?

It doesn't look like leather to me. The way it wrinkles looks like fabric:

Like The Searcher said in the original post, ot seems to be a Members Only javket with a few things removed. Or, they may have just patterened it after the Members Only jacket and made their own from scratch. But the closest option for us is the Members Only jacket, unless there's a knockoff available that already has those bits removed.

One thing that's tough is finding the exact color of the items, especially trying to get the pants, belt, shoes and socks all to match. Then there's the color grading done on the film that can alter the look of the costume pieces. They might have had to dye everything themselves to match.

Great eye! I didn't notice the different button up either. What would you say is different about the later one? I think the pocket might not have extra stitching on it, and maybe the fit is more athletic/slim cut?

This close up of the promo image shows the stiching I'm talking about:
Screenshot_20210821-140747_DuckDuckGo.jpg

Also, seems like the fabric might be more poly-cotton blend for the later shirt, maybe a spandex type stretch cotton blend.
I've found a couple similar options on Amazon, but I'm worried the fabric and color might not be close enough. I'll probably try to buy the shirt and pants in a store in person so I can find a closer match in color, fabric and fit.

Figured I'd post a few of my choices so far. I'm opting for the later version of the costume, before he removes the tie and belt, but with the sneakers instead.
The sneakers are beige with white or off-white soles, though the bottoms are reddish:

Blue Shirt Guy Fight Scene 3.png

Those black dots don't seem to be part of the shoe, maybe it was for a stunt or some marking for production, or maybe just dirt. They don't appear anywher else, as far as I can tell.
Blue Shirt Guy beach - shoes.png

I found these sneakers on Amazon that looked pretty good, though still not exact. I also bought tan laces to replace the white ones:

EDIT: I forgot to include a couple other items I bought. First, I bought the tie from the site posted above, and the watch on Amazon. I also searched for the Perry Ellis belts from above, and the search included some cheaper alternatives that looked pretty good. I chose this one:
Screenshot_20210820-122651_Amazon Shopping.jpg

The leather's a little dark, so I might try to lighten it, and I might reduce the shine on the buckle with an abrasive pad. But those are minor details and no one will notice but me, so I may just wear it as-is.

I plan on at least wearing the shoes when shop for pants, so I can find a close match. I don't feel like spending hundreds on the rag and bone chinos, plus, they don't seem to be in stock anyway.
Last for now are the glasses. Since I'm mostly recreating the later look, I tried to find something similar to these tortoise and gold frames:

Blue Shirt Guy Fight Scene 4 - Glasses.png

Blue Shirt Guy Fight Scene 5 - Glasses.png

I'm going with a cheaper option again, but I actually haven't really found an expensive one that looks as close:
Screenshot_20210820-122741_Amazon Shopping.jpg

They might need some adjustments to look closer, and I'll have to see how they look size-wise when they arrive. I'll update when I get the items so you can aee what they look like in real life.

Wait, you dont want the $750 glasses?

Lol, I saw that site, I was about to repost it myself. No, $750 would push my budget slightly higher than I'd like. Even the Oakley Gascan's at $157 are more than I want to spend on sunglasses I'll only wear for a costume.
I thought about getting some other kinds of sunglasses to swap on the fly, but I'll probably just stick with one pair.
