Found, unmodified props used for different devices in movies

I’m putting together a list (with photos, eventually) for a propping website. The props I’m looking for are found items that are used, unchanged, as something very different device in a movie. This probably could use a little explaining, so here are a few examples:

In the Woody Allen movie, “Sleeper”, an unmodified Radio Shack “Solder Sucker” was used as a hypospray-like syringe.

In “Ghostbusters” or “Ghostbusters II”, Egon used a Radio Shack analog sound meter (held upside down) as a ghost detection device.

In “Teenagers from Outer Space”, the Hubley toy "Atomic Disintegrator" was used, unmodified, as the Focusing Disintegrator Ray, and a sound mixer was used (used upside down, but again, unmodified) as an atmosphere analyzer.

I know there are many, many others. Anyone who can think of any, please post them. If you have photos, that would be even better, but just a description would be great. I can track down photos, if need be.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for but in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode that took place in the mirror universe they used an unaltered AA classic phaser. Didn't bother filling in screw holes, painting or anything...

That is 'kind' of the thing, but that was a phaser being used as... a phaser. Another example of the thing I'm talking about is the green pencil torch used by Capt. Picard in the last Trek film... he used it as a scribe, or writing device on a PADD, and as far as I could tell, it was just turned so any text on the side of the torch was facing away from the camera.

In the 1966 movie "Cyborg 2087" used two toy pistols, unmodified. A Topper Multi-pistol 09 was used as Michael Rennie's stun gun, and REMCO Hamilton's Invaders Grenade Pistols (the chrome ones) were used as lasers by the cyborg tracers.

In "Santa Claus Conquers the Martian", 1964, the Martian pistols were Whamo! air blasters. The Martian rifles were also unaltered toy rifles, but it has been a long time since I have seen the movie, and don't remember what rifle it was.

David.

In Terminator 2 Judgment Day John Conner used an Atari Portfolio as his ATM hacking computer.

I completely forgot about the Wammo! Air Blasters! I had one of those... made a wonderful "woompf" sound and sent an irritating blast of air at the dog. That is, until the rubber diaphragm ripped. From that point on, it just looked silly.

Thanks for the info!

the "V for Vendetta" scrambler device was a fairly untouched booklight from walmart. you just had to take off some parts and paint it.

I don't have any photos, but in Star Trek TOS some of Dr. McCoy's surgical "tools" were unmodified salt and pepper shakers.

Theres the MicroFlame torch in ANH that the Jawas used to put on the restraining bolt on R2 and Luke used to fix C3PO. At the time the torch was also release by Radio Shack as the Archer torch.

In truth two of the tools were salt + pepper shakers, but they were modified -- the wood was painted. The rest were turned aluminum.

However -- in "Court Martial", the 'white noise device' used to cancel heartbeats was an unmodified Radio Shack microphone.

Very interesting thread, the only thing I can think of is the bond watches. I dont know them all off the top of my head but I know an omega seamaster was used. Just dont expect it to shoot laser beams :lol

In the low budget Canadian movie Phil the Alien (2004), one of the agents uses a gun that is just a Nintendo gun that has been painted grey.

Krups coffee grinder!

Alien and BTTF ;)

How about the plastic model kit tree used in the opening scene of Alien, below a monitor.

And then there is the Coleman lantern, also in Alien, shoulder slung.

In a movie called Event Horizon when the two ships are docking the door entry "lock/open plunger" is a Makita orbital sander sprayed black! As soon as I saw it I was like "I'm out of here" It just spapped me back to reallity:eek

MIBII the background alien guns in K's apartment were alot of different types of supersoakers painted silver.....i use to have one of them.
