exoray, I've seen it referred to as a booster more than not, but in the text accompanying Barry's photo, the "teeth" are called "cooling vanes" :confused

Yeah, like I said they are probably some type of sink, when you back up/restrict the gases to boost the recoil you have to also build up heat, so it makes sense to have a way to get rid of it... But, to be a good sink of heat it needs to be securitly mated to the part it's cooling, so if it's separate parts they have to mate tight, so maybe all threaded?

Here is another view of the gear.

In this photo, it almost looks like there is a screw hole or something circular to the left of the pin.

Could be just grease gunk or paint...

Really, I just wonder WHERE is Andres with the news he said he has for us. Sounds weird, but I mean it, I´m really curious.

Hermes.

:lol

I've got a guest visiting, give me a break. It's nice enough that she allowed me to take her to a scrubby warehouse district and sat in the car while I conducted business, I could ask no more. However she's tired and gone to bed, so...

I do have BIG NEWS.. Back in a bit with photos.

Ok, first off, a HUGE thank you to Killdozer for making this possible (by which I mean he put me on this contact..) His constant search for this part turned up some very unusual options, so it is very appropriate that he should be the one to discover this part. For me, coming on the heels of receiving the emitter the whole thing's just unreal, I am in shock, utterly dumbfounded at my luck to now own one of these parts. My thanks also to another RPFer who cooperated with us in resolving a double contact situation. He's being a real gentleman about it and I'm very grateful to him for that.

Here's the killer--the long threaded extension is a PERFECT tight fit in the handwheel. Just spread some epoxy on that thing and push it in there and you'd get just the sort of gloppy effect from squeezed out glue, cleaned up with a rag, as seen on the prop.

But that's not all--the other part, with holes in it? That is a PERFECT fit inside the clamp. :lol The whole thing is just PERFECT.. Oh, and yes that's one of my modified Roman gears. Roman--note the correct bloody length.. :angry :lol

So here it is, all assembled (roughly, forgive the rotten alignment): :eek

....and the closeup. (no time to redo the photography I'm afraid...):

JHV--it doesn't get more confirmed than this, seriously. :thumbsup

I can't believe I experience awe looking at a damned lightsaber... :lol

:eek

Sweet...

So what's the length? 39mm?

Otherwise we nailed it right? How does the "U" shape compare???

Come on. Give me some details...

:love

Just so I understand - the gear IS from a Brit MkII browning .303 ANM2 flash hider like the one from the posted photos?

VERY COOL if it is.

Can't wait to see it in person. :D
