It's possible that the piece you had was the the 50 cal.
The 50 is bigger than the 30 IIRC.

None of the ground-based .50 cals (which is what you'll mainly find pictures of on the net) that I've ever seen have a heatsink on the front. Here is a 7.7mm shell next to standard 9mm for size comparison. It's a big shell.
