Oh cool!

Next time I've got some spare money, I'll have to get a pile of those! :thumbsup

Wow, that would be such a crock if the screen ones are plastic. With the HP ones being minted, I assumed this would be the case also for the NT ones. I won't know until they arrive, although I spent a good amount on the wooden case and coins. I will update if thats the case on this thread as it would make it a definate buy for those who want to do the NT displays.

His are screen-used though.

And also seem to come with a nice presentation and certificates and stuff.

I wouldn't doubt it for a second. Mind you on a multi-million dollar film like that one cheaping out on $5 "gold" coins is kind of hilarious!

:lol

Looking at the film, it would make sense. When they first go into the gold room, Riley looks down and then easily lifts a notebook size piece of gold into his knapsack, which he then flings onto his shoulder. A piece that size would weigh quite a bit, he would have a difficult time just lifting it and his knapsack should break under such weight. Still, dog gone it, you just expect the hero stuff to be nice metal and weighty. At least I do.

I am getting some of the other nice gifts that came with the opening, so I will pop together a photo certificate to that effect for those few that are getting the coins on the JY thread. If they are plastic, I do intend to take advantage of the link above and fill that very expensive NT chest with as many of those coins for my own display if anything else. Will go along well with the PoTC chest I have of the Disney plastic coins and jewels mixed with the MR metal coins I have on display at home.

Hold on, the description on the partytimesrus site says:
"144 Plastic Pirate Coins Engraved w/ Skull & Bones and a Treasure Chest. These Golden Coins Can Be Used as Party Favors or Decorations."

The description seems to differ from the image in this thread. Just thought I'd mention that in case someone was going to buy from them. You might want to double check what you are paying for.

I would not be surprised if the ones trip are getting ar plastic. It will be really disappointing but not too much of a surprise.

Hey there - I wouldn't call it cheap for them to use plastic coins - even for the hero versions. When I was in LA I always wanted to go with real metal for props, but was always discouraged from its use by propmasters because it was an unneeded expense (as a rule resin props look just as good on film), a theft risk (expensive props are difficult to replace quickly), and often too difficult for the actors to handle. I'm not saying I agree with these points - that is just what I was told! :)

Case in points:

For the Mars attacks ring I pushed like mad for actual silver - but in the end the prop master was a bit peeved because they switched fingers on the day and it was hard for them to cut up and re-size the ring.

On wishmaster I once again pushed for metal props - this time for the bad guy's fingertips:

The actor loved the fact that we went metal (aluminum in this case) for a few days - but then requested resin copies as it was too much weight.

Just my 2 cents (in vacuum metallized resin)

No, no, I understand your points perfectly well Tiki, and agree with the propmaster, which is why I said "I wouldn't doubt it for a second".

It's still funny to me to think about it. Nick Cage gets paid millions and millions, and he's holding a $5 gold coin that people throw away.

It's hollywood through and through.

;)
