Found a GREAT Indy mannequin - NEW PIC on Page 2

Hi everyone,

Just when I thought my Indy display was pretty much complete, I found this GREAT new mannequin for sale here in the UK. It cost 99 Pounds and is available from www.morplan.co.uk

This one is reference: 87688 - Male Hands on Belt.

I've been looking for literally YEARS for something that comes close to the pose shown on the 10th Anniversary poster, and this one is the best by far. It's a little too tall at the moment so I'm going to cut the feet off which will drop it down by 2 inches.

I'd also like to get some new hands made at some point so they're holding the whip more accurately to match the pose Ford is in on that poster.

Here's the pic of my costume displayed on the mannequin:

What do you think?

I LOVE IT ! I wonder how much shipping would be to the states.

Also, now send me your previous one...pronto !

Re: Found a GREAT new Indy mannequin - PICS

Thanks Jose!

My other one will be up for sale actually. However, due to new shipping charges that have been put into place by Parcelforce Worldwide, it's now VERY expensive to ship large items to the US. On a box for a Vader helmet, the cost to send to the US was FOUR times more expensive than the cost of shipping the same thing from the US to the UK. :cry

The box for the old mannequin would have to go FedEx. If you're serious, I could let you know the size / weight etc so you can get a quote.

Cheers,

Chris

Damn Chris, great find! I love your enthusiasm to keep improving your displays and replicas even after they're among the best out there!!!

Re: Found a GREAT new Indy mannequin - PICS

Thanks Douglas! As I mentioned, I've always wanted my Indy in this sort of pose, but was never able to find the correct mannequin. Once I've dropped the height by 2 inches and got some new hands, this will be "it" for me.

I'm looking forward to receiving the Sideshow Collectibles Premium Format 1/4 scale Indy statue later in the year. He's going to be displayed on a white pedestal which will sit underneath the Raiders poster (where the whip used to be displayed).

Nice. I'd agree - the hands look unnatural, but poverall the pose is perfect; great combo of dynamic yet relaxed.

Re: Found a GREAT new Indy mannequin - PICS

Pm me for details. Perhaps I have ways...muhwhahahaha

Re: Found a GREAT new Indy mannequin - PICS

Have you tried heating the hands (a hairdryer worked on a similar mannequin, for me) and readjusting them that way?

Looks great, BTW!:thumbsup

Re: Found a GREAT new Indy mannequin - PICS

Chris, will this mannequin get a head eventually, or are you going to make it a costume display only?

Re: Found a GREAT new Indy mannequin - PICS

Still waiting for someone to sculpt an accurate "Raiders-era" Harrison Ford head. I'm waiting to see what the Sideshow 1:1 bust looks like. If it's a good likeness, I may try and retro-fit it onto this mannequin. However, if it sucks, I'll be keeping the display headless until something comes along.

Cheers,

Chris

Re: Found a GREAT new Indy mannequin - PICS

Maybe I'll give him a shot this summer... Any measurements you'd like him to conform to? Head circumference? Maybe it'll come out well enough for your display. I'd like to have a Raiders-era bust myself.

Re: Found a GREAT new Indy mannequin - PICS

Hey Douglas,

I didn't know you were a sculptor.
The head circumference is 58cm. I'd recommend picking up one of the face castings from the Han in Carbonite. I think it would be invaluable reference to get the nose correct. Nobody seems to be able to capture Ford's nose / nostrilss correctly.

Keep us posted!

Cheers,

Chris

Hey, Chris.

Can you post a pic of the 10th anniversary poster for reference? Not sure which one that is.

Display looks awesome, by the way. Love your room. One of my favorites.

Hi Chris,

I will do that! I haven't sculpted in years, but I did take some sculpture courses for four years during college at the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston... Hopefully I'll have retained some of what I learned there! Here's a shot of a Chris Reeve sculpt I was doing about six years ago... I don't have a picture of the finished product on hand, but this is the last sculpt I did I think:

He came out alright in the end, but this was pretty early on. I'm going to do my best to nail the Raiders-era Ford for you - it'd be an honor to have a sculpt make the cut for that display! We'll see what I can pull off...

That Reeve looks nice Douglas! Look forward to seeing what you can do with Raiders-era Ford!

Hector - here's a photo of the 10th Anniversary poster as well as one of the publicity photos that was obviously used by the poster artist.

Re: Found a GREAT new Indy mannequin - PICS

Great find Chris - I'd actually like arm positioning like that for my Vader mannequin.

Have you ever thought about going with silicone hands with posable fingers? Would give it a much more natural grip around the whip.

And Sideshow's doing a 1:1 Indy ... I'll keep my eyes peeled for that.

Westies: I know you said that's an early pic but you really do have the likeness down nicely there.

Re: Found a GREAT new Indy mannequin - PICS

Have you considered just taking alginate castings of hands in the position you'd like?

Re: Found a GREAT new Indy mannequin - PICS

Chris, you still seem to find the best mannequins!

Re: Found a GREAT new Indy mannequin - PICS

Very nice mannequin!! I might have to look into getting one. Thanks for sharing :)
