For those who read the Wraith Squadron novels

So there's an interview posted with Timothy Zahn about his upcoming book Scoundrels: 'Star Wars' Author Timothy Zahn On His Han Solo/'Ocean's 11' Hybrid, 'Scoundrels' | Hollywood.com

Check out the pic of Kell Tainer. Um, apparently the illustrator didn't read the books or even get a general description of Kell. Kell was said to be in extremely good physical shape and pretty muscular. Not as big as Arnold, but someone who looks like they can take care of themselves. This guy in the pic, not so much. C'mon Lucas Licensing!

Then there's Winter. She's supposed to be someone who was even more beautiful than Leia. She looks like an old maid in the picture!

I liked Wraith Squadron... it was Dirty Dozen/A-Team style Star Wars.

At one time, I read all the Star Wars novels. I think some 90 of them in 3 months flat. That first series of novels after New Jedi Order was so awful, about telepathic ant like colonies combined with the Young Jedi Knights characters, or something to that effect, I lost all interest in reading more. There were some real dogs amongst those 90 or so I read, but typically they weren't multi-book series. Have there been good series or stand-alone novels since that time?

I haven't read the books in years but yeah way off.

My preference is the Rogue Squadron books and Tales of the Empire.

I stopped reading the EU books after Zahn's 2 book series where Luke purposes to Mara at the end.

I liked Shadow Games, which has Dash Rendar. It's a one off about him guarding a celebrity. It's kind of in the spirit of the old Brian Daley Han Solo books. Also the Han Solo Trilogy by A.C. Crispin is really good. The Republic Commando series is excellent. Also there's a new Wraith novel which is okay. It's a good story, but more to just show where the characters are at around the Thrawn Trilogy.

I'm going to try an email Aaron Allston that link and say "You might want to talk to Lucasfilm". :lol

After plowing through the Vong wars books, which just went on and on and on....

Finally when those finally ended I picked up a Coruscant Nights book and within forty pages gave up on the EU. Up until that point I had read every book.

I might give the new Zahn book a try.

I guess I really haven't been paying attention. I knew there were a lot more EU books, but I had no idea Zahn did any more after the Thrawn 2 parter.

He did one on the Outbound Flight that I've been meaning to read, but beyond that I've lost track. I just don't care about the EU anymore, I gave up after they killed Mara Jade. The worst part is Zahn had plans for MJ that were ruined because he apparently wasn't consulted on the decision. Oh well, why would you want more novels featuring the most popular EU character written by the best EU author who created her? :facepalm

Rant aside, those images of the EU characters don't work for me in the slightest. The concept sounds interesting. I'm torn between my appreciation for Zahn's work and my feeling that Lucasfilm doesn't deserve my money anymore.

Can't be arsed, really. I gave up on the EU after the Black Fleet Crisis books. I heard about how they later killed Chewie and brought in the BioBorg...er...Vong later and the whole thing just sounded stupid and pointless by then.

I read some of the X-wing books, which were cool. Zahn's original Thrawn trilogy was great. The Jedi Academy trilogy that followed was ok-ish. Outside of that, every book I read was at best "Fair to middling" and at worst just crap.

I don't see as how this would change anything, to be honest. Zahn did good work, but this just seems a little too kitschy.

What I don't get is all the rumors that supposedly Lucas personally ordered Mara's death because he was upset that Zahn was being given credit for bringing SW back. First I seriously doubt that Lucas is that thin skinned because everyone knows he created SW. Second I'm going to guess that having Luke get married is one of those decisions that they had to get the okay from Lucas to do. Everyone says Lucas hated the character with a passion. Well there's a giant green freaking rabbit character that has no belonging in SW so that's a poor character choice to start hating! I just highly doubt that he would want to kill off a character that is one of, if not THE most popular EU character.

In the season 3 DVD extras of Clone Wars, Filloni jokes to GL's face about the fact he hates MJ, and Lucas does not deny it. Why, I have no idea.

Mara Jade was undoubtedly the most popular EU character. I didn't read any books between Thrawn Trilogy and Hand of Thrown that featured Luke but I understand that a lot of authors tried to come up with alternate love interests for Luke so perhaps it wasn't just Uncle George that disliked her.

Zahn has wrote a few books after the Hand of Thrawn 2 parter. He did Survivor's Quest with set up events in Outbound Flight.

He then returned to Star Wars with Allegience, this takes place between ANH and Empire. And a follow up, but not an acutal sequel in Choices of One.

Scoundrels is set almost immediately after ANH.

Outside of the Republic Commando books, all my Reading stays in the OT timelines and I've never read the New Jedi Order books. And very little between the 2 Thrawn series. That was harsh EU time there. Basically, just I, Jedi, maybe the Jedi Academy Trilogy and Starfighters of Adamure.

As for Kell, This book takes place before he Joins the New Republic Military. He may not have gotten into the shape he was in when we first meet him in Wedge's Office. This is even before he was a Commando. (he's a favorite character of mine) But I would more blame the artist who drew the pictures, before blaming Zahn. ( who worked with Aaron Allston on the character's role)

I wasn't blaming Zahn, just stating that the interview was with Zahn. The artist clearly didn't get any info from Lucasfilm before he drew that.
