Foam Sculpting My First Bio - Beyond The Final Rung

WHOA!!! Now those are some lenses. Where did you say you purchased the materials for the creation of these?

I have a bio I need to finish and the lenses are one thing I need to do.

REYALS, the Lexan sheet came from a local hobby shop and is put out by Parma. It is used for making R/C car bodies and windshields. There are better priced places online to get it in bulk. The Styrene sheets I got from a local craft store called AC Moore, it is sold as Shrinky Dinks. The mesh also came from AC Moore called Wireform 100% aluminum Sparkle Mesh 1/8" pattern from Amaco. The carpet tape I use is 2" wide plain old carpet tape and the films both came from a local home improvement store called Lowes. They are the Gila brand Platinum and Privacy Mirror. I am going to try some other things to see if I can get better adhesion of the films onto the plastic sheet though. Hope that helps. Let us know how your lenses turn out.

Bonz,

Love the work man! I am also getting ready to work on a bio. The shrinky dink material you got from AC Moore, did it come printed with designs? Was it clear?

Thanks!

Dave

Thanks Dave! Welcome to the Hunters Lair. The plastic was clear. They have several other types as well from pre-printed to opaque to even white.

Damn they are some killer lense. Gonna have to try the teleporting again lol

Come on over Jason...bring your suit and your blade with you.

Cool an invite.... Which blade? I have duel blades to the shins, a machete to the side and the duel wrist blades lol

Not to mention my trusty double edged axe .....

The machete....but any blade is cool with me so bring 'em all.... :D

Like I have said, it is not just like the the original and never will be but it is close... I like how it has turned out so far for a rookie bio makers first attempt.

My next bio will be a custom....already working on the concept with the help of a very talented artist here on the Lair.

I'll be honest with you bud, apart from the obvious laser shroud, I can see no difference between them. No its not the original but it is sure as hell the closest damn thing I have ever seen and considering the origins of this build, this is one awesome quality piece of work that is up there with the big timers. I would love to see a line match up of this compared to the original P1 bio and I bet they are near on identical.

All you blood, sweat and hard work has paid of. You have achieved an unbelievable feat with this and just think that it deserves some recognition. I would love to see what you would create with a lump of clay in front of you and a design.

Looking forward to your next bio build.

Yeah Bonz, this P1 is pretty close to being spot on bro. Nothing rookie looking about it.

Can't wait to see your next work.

Thank you gentlemen. I am anticipating getting this one cast up with all it's bits and pieces soon. I want to create one in resin that is maxed out, painted up with all the interior detail pieces, lenses, lasers and genuine leather as a show piece. I have intentions for it. Once I have the molds I can be about making up some more for any interested persons as well to the level they want. With the next bio being a custom I will have more creative liberties since I will not have to try so hard to make it resemble something that has already been created. I am looking forward to that.

Steve

Any interested persons? Are you afraid there aren't many? You can count me in for one with all the bits and pieces!

This is incredible, I can't believe I missed this thread. It's very inspiring to see works like this, I wouldn't call you a rookie that's for sure :)

wow!!...i didint think somthing like this could done with foam its amazing well done

Thank you very much alphademonic, I appreciate your kind words. It is amazing what you can do with foam and a little elbow grease...

Not wanting to count chickens before they hatch so to speak. There are so many really good bios available here on the Lair to choose from made by so many more talented individuals than myself.

Thanks Oxtheii, you have done a very good job with your pred costume....I still maintain my rookie status. :)

Ahhh....Thanksgiving in the USA....time to relax, be home with family, enjoying turkey and all the trimmings and...

wet sanding my predator bio helmet four times until my finger tips are raw and the nails are practically gone on my first two and a half fingers.... o_O I had it so nice and smooth at one point and then used some Rustoleum dark gray primer on it which cracked terribly and just didn't want to dry properly...ugh! It really messed it up. So, I went back to the trusty Krylon primer but have had to spray and sand it three more times to get it back to where it was. I will sand it next with 400 grit, one more coat of KRYLON primer, a final light wet sanding with 600 grit and declare it ready for molding...still working on getting the materials I will need to do that so it may sit for awhile until then...

At least I got to enjoy some beautiful weather sitting in my driveway while watching my children sword fight with the neighbors kids.

That's all for now...

Well, my finger tips are starting to return to normal and my finger nails are growing back out. I have completed the final wet sanding with 600 grit and I am officially calling the plug DONE!!! I hope to be ordering the materials I need to make the mold very soon. Here are some final pics of it in white primer prior to the molding process. I purposefully added a bunch of pictures so you can see it from many different angles. One thing I struggled with was not being able to find many pictures of the inside of the bio or looking at it from the back. I hope these help others who may be looking for something similar. The next pics I post will be of the molding process. Based on its dimensions (12" wide) I would say that it is just slightly under a 1:1 for those more vertically challenged of us, myself included. I think it would be well proportioned for someone about 5'7" and up but this is just a guess.
