So im sorta new to the Lair, haven't posted much of anything. Doing mostly research. Ive desided to put my Halo projects aside and break from the 405th for a bit to try my hand at another obsession of mine, Predator. This is my work on my Pred head sofar, using R1a2s3's youtube huntorial as a starting point and idead for using foam as a base. and this is what ive come up with....

now that the mask has been fully latexed, I need to paint it up . right now im latex’ing the backer rods I bought for dreads and working up a paint/color scheme for the head.
More pix soon as I get some work done. Thx for looking.

EDIT : 8/20/2010
Hello all, i played with the airbrush today and gave the mask a little go... this is what i came out with....

So yea... its blue. not quite what i was aiming for. was toying with having a blue hue to it fading back into black. then gave up and that and desided to practice the dot patterns.
so yea lemme know what you think of the blue look, but im 95% sure that im going to repaint it entirely. this time sticking with tans and browns. lol. but here what i did today. its worth a look. =0p

EDITED: 8/23/2010

back again! i desided that the flesh tones were probably best... so i started over. hit it with some white, and went flesh tone. here are the pix of todays work... not much but its something.

So its been a minute since ive updated, been a mniute since i had time to work on it. School starting up again and all. Anywho, this is the new paint scheme sofar. Still need to darken the trim of crown and fade it into the darker brown sections. AND put the dreads on. lol. Just want it painted first...

So there ya go. And incase you were wondering, no its night white in the front, the flash just brightened it. its actually the lightest i could get my tan... so. i like it. lemme kno what you think

I'm impressed as well! This looks like a very viable & cheap way to get a good looking & detailed mask... I'm really leaning towards this method for my own first Mask, it's taking forever to get money to get it, but everything I hear says these take over a year to build so, no rushing on my part.

Thanks for the Huntorial on this one man, Very nice job on the mask!

That is just awesome. So creative...When I saw the first pic I was thinking no way possible.I must say it looks great.Cant wait to see it painted up...

Thank you all. I'm glad you like it.

Like everyone else I was very skeptical about how it would turn out as I first started. A lot of pieces were added and removed, rebuilt up over and again til I got what I wanted. I left it able to have moving mandables and mouth, just not sure if I want that hair clip device pressed to my mouth all the time...

To Tatsu: I've read that the foam build take a while to build aswell, but I only took me little less than a month to build this. Cheap too. @ 2 sheets of foam for $7 a piece, 2 tugle of rubber cement at $4 a piece, 3 paks of backer rod for $4 a piece, and 2 small over priced cans of latex for $13 a piece from michaels craft store, it worked well for the budget. One thing is for sure, for the body suit I'm buying my latex online lol.

Workin on dreads now, and developing a paint scheme. New pix soon

Could you please draw the basic forms you cut out? A little blueprint of sorts. I have problems with getting started and r1a2s3 won't respond. Thankies!

yea i can pull something together. but mind you it will be a very rough general layout. but i'll toss a lil sketch of how i made the base of it. anything to help out

EDITED: ok heres a quick paint blue print of the basic parts for the base. the rest was just looking at ref pix and cutting and holding it up to see it it would look good before i glued. and even if i was sure it looked good, alot of times i ripped it off and changed it, lol so its just personal pref from there. just kept build up and over parts. hope this helps some. this is all i have access to sketch a blueprint on at the moment. and im not a ms paint artists. sry. =0p

part one
blueprintpt1.jpg.gif

1. cut out the oval for the top of head.
2. cut out a retangle that can wrap 1/2 way around your head. the sketch the red sections i colored, and cut them out aswell

blueprintpt2.jpg.gif

this is what it should look like after you cut it. (left) if you turn it side ways (right)
3. cut a small chin rest for yourself, for the INSIDE of mask. shown in yellow.
4. pull the soon to be mouth piece a little forward from your "cheeks" of the base.
5. glue the chin rest piece to back of mouth piece
6. glue sides of chin rest to side of "cheek" base

blueprintpt3.jpg.gif

7. now cut another retangle which will be wrapped behind your head and glued to the ends of the "cheek" base
8. (not pictured, but simple) take the oval top forr head and glue the middle where eye meet, and oval top.
9. then glue down just to the outsides of eyes to top oval piece.
10. make sure oval is at about 45 degree angle... leaving a gap bewteen the top oval and the back of head.
11. this will allow you to adjust how steep you want the slope of the top of your mask's head.
12. then when you get the desired angle, cut some foam to fill the gap and glue.

congrats, now your prolly where i was looking at it like wtf? this looks rediculous. lol. well build up and shave down, it'll come together.
i hope this helped out, at least a little bit. feel free to ask any and all questions, and i'll help out anyway that i can.

thx again for checkin out my WIP

New Pix!. Updated in the first post. tested my hand at the airbrush today. lemme kno what ya think. im not feeling the color, but it was a practice go. im 95% sure im gonna repaint it and stay with flesh tones and browns. thx for looking
