FM Y-Wing modification.

I'm new here - hello all. (Folks from SM might recognise the name, though it got truncated somehow when I registered here!)

I'm a 'general shape' accuracy freak. Perfect greeblies are great, but perfect macroforms are what really get me excited. Very few SF kits provide this, but FM's Y-Wing is better than most, the only real problem for me being the too-wide neck. But if you're prepared to sacrifice a bit of FM's gorgeous detailing, and ready to scratch up a bit of your own, this is fairly easy to improve.

Anyway, photos and notes if you're interested:

Oh and at the start of the photostream is my record of a far more difficult modification - the bows of the FM Falcon.

Greetings, and welcome fellow newbie! Did you use brass tubing for this?

Hi back! No, I used mostly the kit pipes but replaced the big pipe that runs from the aft section to the 'junction box' thing by the neck with a thinner styrene rod. Got away with styrene because there's no bend on it. The bent thick pipes would look better probably replaced by a thinner guage brass tube. Might try that one day. Still, it has to be said that the original FM piping is pretty damn amazing for the scale.

Your Y-wing looks just like the ILM photo!I'm doing the same modification on proportion on my FM Y-wing.

Cheers for the kind comments. Kh39, how you getting on with your alteration? I'd be interested to see what approach you're taking.
