Hey guys, I found this site a couple of weeks ago and got completely inspired. I spent a week checking out this site and the 405th, reading heaps of tutorials and watching the Hero Tutorials videos on youtube and finally I decided to jump in head first. I started with a few peps that looked a little easier. I decided to start with the movie cap helmet (hopefully I can complete it before the movie hits,) and a couple of Predator masks.
I've assembled the peps, resined the outsides. I decided not to fiberglass the outside, and stuck with shadows method on the Hero Tutorials. I fiberglassed the inside by using spray adhesive and then resined the fiberglass afterward. I just finished resining the fiberglass on the inside and I'm waiting for it to dry.
I had a few setbacks. mixing the resin and the hardener first off. The first time through I put too much catylist in the resin and it started to dry too quickly, leaving some globs on my Cap helmet! I dremmeled some of the globs off after it dried. I'm kinda hoping the rest can be covered during the bondo stage.
Also, when resining the fiberglass on the inside it seemed like the brush was pulling the resin mat out of place leaving areas without fiberglass. I was able to fix it for the most part, but some areas still look a little messed up. Also one of my pred masks doesn't scoop in in the cheek area like i would like it too. Leaves it looking kinda chunky and unthreatening. How hard is it to manipulate this the way i want to after the fiberglass cures? I have a heat gun, but i haven't used it yet. Anybody have any advice, on fixing some of my mistakes, or where to go from here?
