First time 3D print build

Got this off a seller on Etsy, beautiful, clean print. I'm not going for a Louvre quality look, so I'm not going overboard sanding everything down smooth.

Getting the sub-assemblies painted their base colors...

This is the overall look I'm trying to get.

I've also got a 3D printed Rey blaster coming from the same seller. This ought to be fun.

You've got a good start there. I look very forward to your progress as I have a 3D printed Obi-Wan lightsaber that I am also working on. I do recommend using spaztix mirror chrome for the pommell as I got incredible results with this and it comes in spray cans. Just remember to us the black backer to get the best results. I did not want a perfect mirror chrome but a bit worn chrome and I think I achieved that.

I'll have to try that Spaztix stuff on one of my next builds, I've already laid down a few coats of Testor's chrome over a gloss black coat on the pommel. I used a metallic graphite on the clamp and the emitter and I'm going to shoot those with chrome to try and get a slightly less shiny finish on those. It's going to get a good bit of weathering overall, dark washes in the recesses and rust stains/pigment on the gear and grenade.

Awesome! Are you working with spray paints or an airbrush? I've done a fair deal of 3D printing and finishing for about a year now and I'm just waiting on a compressor to finish up Rey's lightsaber with the latter now, I'm curious to see your approach.

Spray paints for now, I have one of those little USB cordless airbrushes they use for nail painting, just haven't tried to mess with it yet.

I'm probably going to use it on my Rey blaster, on the end of the barrel where the "heat" from energy bolts discolored it.

gunnerk19 , I know you weren't planning on going overboard, and the quality of the print is pretty good, but if you do some sanding, painting and filling with sandable primer, you will be extremely impressed with the results. Especially if you are planning on using Spaz Stix.

After all the weathering, I guess it's actually going to be closer to this version...

The clamp and handwheel still need a few more coats, and some black filling of the clamp recesses.

That looks fantastic! The weathering looks great and I will be taking some inspiration for my forthcoming weathering job on my saber.

Thanks, I'm pretty pleased with how it's coming out.

I wish I had gotten a clear bubble strip somewhere to use in place of the printed one, but it's been epoxied and too late to swap it.
