I finally got around to finishing up my Cpt Mal Reynold's rig. I'm hoping I can make a browncoat to go with it before the San Diego Comic Con. We'll see.

What do you think?

Looks good! How well does it hold the gun, thats the important part. By the indentions it appears to work!

It fits like a glove! I made this one to the QMX replica and it is very form fitting. I've got it in the bucket now doing a little wet forming which will give it a more contoured look.

Basically I bought all the Firefly and Serenity big books and studied the holster. Then it was just trial and error starting with construction paper cut to size and working up to cardboard then to the actual leather.
One thing I tried to do is get the colors right. In Firefly the belt and holster are different types of leather and have different colors. Meaning, the bucket is more of a 'reddish' latigo color and the belt was a WWII German Naval officers waist belt in brown. So I dyed each piece with different colors to match the look of the TV show version. It's hard to make out the color difference in this photo though. Next I'm going to make the film version with the same color leather for the bucket and belt.

God I wish this show was still on! The only other show of this caliber that I remember loving and having it taken off the air as well was 'Tales of the Golden Monkey.' It was on in the early 80's and was my favorite. Firefly takes the cake though.

Super job!

As someone noted, the hard part is getting the pistol to fit nicely without bending or breaking the thumbscrews on the front.

A good forum for Firefly/Serenity projects is:

Things have slowed down a bit, but just reading through all the info already posted will keep you busy for a while.

There are a couple of members who have made, or are making, their own Browncoats.
They talk about getting the "flair" at the bottom right as a key to getting the look right.

My own collection is most organized at:

Things have slowed down on all the Firefly/Serenity forums.
A lot of the early excitement has died down and many folks have moved on to other collections.
Things have settled into:
folks working on long-term projects,
QMx releasing a slow-but-steady stream of products now that they have the Firefly license to go with the Serenity license,
folks involved in extended universe or fan films.

Far as Firefly fan films, a round-up of ten can be found here:

Some complete, some stalled, some more professional than others.
But it's a way for folks to play in a 'verse that won't likely soon see new material except in comic books and the Companion volume, "Firefly: Still Flying".

Good luck with your projects, you're off to a terrific start,
Mike

Thanks for the info about the FFFs - the first one, Mosquito, was filmed about an hour from hear.

Had I only known there were Browncoats so close...
