Firefly - Rance Burgess Laser

Never thought of this before, but in the episode "Heart of Gold" on Firefly, has anyone ever identified what kind of gun Rance Burgess' laser originated from, or what parts have been stuck onto it? I, myself, would like one sitting next to my Mal pistol once I recieve it. Not sure if there's another thread about this somewhere, but I did a search and nothing came up.

Also; does anyone have high res screen caps of it?

Thanks,

I'd like to know too.

Wow. Looking at it again, I can't identify any of the pieces from anything, besides maybe the scope thing, which looks a bit like what was used on the Lassiter. Also looks a little more complicated than I remember.

Alright; hopefully someone will chime in knowing the majority of these parts. :)

Who says it has an ejection port?? If you're refering to that 'slot' in the lower of the two cylinders that is where the "low power' readout appears later in the show.

Here is a capture from the DVD, of the other side:

It does to me.

And, while I'm in NO WAY any of the experts that I've read here, I get a feeling that the lower section, the one with the battery... I wonder if it somekind of hand controller for a gaming system?

Can't say why, but it seems that way due to the symmetry of the piece.

Just a thought...

Bumparoo.

Still very interested in this piece. Anyone have anymore info on it? I still think it's a game controller of some sort, but I'd like to see if I can jog someone's memory to see if they can identify it.

Re: Firefly Rance Burgess Laser

Perhaps not even a game controller, but a handheld LCD game? The shape *is* weird though. Asymmetrical. It almost looks like Ohio, actually. :D

Stylistically it reminds me of Gilette's Mach-# line of razors. :lol

Just from the shape, I'd suggest looking at recent models of cordless drills.

My guess is it's mostly custom. The part at the front could be the guts of a cd player or game system, rigged so the disc still spins. The butt could be a modded corldless powertool, but aI don't think it's a drill. Scewdriver maybe?

Caps are fuzzy as they were background shots & I brightened them to bring out the detail.

Thanks for the screens, Birdie!

I've been slaving over those pictures for a while now, Googling, asking friends if they recognised any pieces, but nothing. I'm considering contacting the prop maker him/herself, because I can't seem to find anything that even looks like a piece from this.

I've noticed the CD-looking thing on the 8th picture down, that's quite interesing. And, I don't know why, but I recognise the "business end" of the laser big time (those two little cylinder things sticking out).

I'll continue my search...

Re: Firefly Rance Burgess Laser

The double barrels (cylinders) look like the front ends of regular laser pointers to me.
