Firefly: Browncoats Unite

Has anyone else watched this round table reunion of the Firefly cast? Man, it's so good to see them back together and talking about the show. To see them together 10 years after the show was filmed and see how they still act as a unit just reinforces how good they really were together.

All I can think of when I was watching this was "why doesn't Joss get this show picked back up?".

If you watch the show there's definitely a sense that they'd do the show again in a heartbeat.

What a job it must have been to work with such a great team.

With the cast, I think that is why so many people love and connect with the show. The cast seems to love and enjoy it just as much as the fans.

I'm kind of on the fence about the idea of it coming back. If SOMEHOW the show wasn't up to par then it would ruin it. Although I miss the show I'm happy with what we got.

I agree that everyone would have to come back, and by that, I mean Joss and the writers, but you sort of get the indication from the reunion show that it's not impossible for that to happen.

Unfortunately, the show was cut short by a near-sighted network. Granted, the fan base really picked up steam after the show was cut, but it's still there to this day. Heck, I'm one of them who didn't watch the show until I saw the movie.

Despite the gap in time, I really think it could enjoy success if the same crew came back. Unlike some cast how either all apart or really show their age over time (Brent Spiner anyone?), this cast still looks every bit the part of the characters they played.

Coincidentally, I was watching the Serenity Visual Commentary yesterday, & during the final moments, Nathan asks about the demand & willingness of the show coming back. Nothing said that hasn't been discussed ad nauseum (Noone is knocking on the door/ Wheedon would drop everything in a heartbeat...etc).

The one interesting thing though, was Wheedon turned to Ron Glass & said something about having already discussed with him how Book would be involved with a sequel or re-start of the show. Glass agreed & it was dropped. That fact alone got me really intrigued about what he could have had in mind. He said on the commentary for 'Out of Gas' that he wouldn't go "supernatural" with the show, so I'm dying to know how a writer of his caliber would pull this off.

i'd assume they'd do the "we're picking up after the end of the TV series and the events of Serenity haven't happened yet" thing.

I dont think that'd be possible. 'Out of Gas' takes place about 6 months after the beginning of the series, IIRC. Serenity takes place 8 months after. The 2 comic series, 'Better Days' & 'Those Left Behind' pretty much cover the 2 months in-between.

Plus, even though I agree that all the cast still looks great, a few still show every bit of the last 10 years. But let me be honest, If the entire cast got together to read the local Ukrainian phone directory, I'd probably buy tickets to the live event, then go home & pre-order the collectors edition blu-ray on Amazon.

I kinda liked the show.

If the show did return, I'm pretty certain they'd ignore all of that, pretend the events in "Serenity" happened later, or something. I don't think many fans would be pleased with new episodes if they didn't include Book or Wash.

Let's put it this way: Wasn't it about 10 years after getting cancelled that Star Trek suddenly became a multi-movie series? It could happen, but I'd miss Wash, and anyway, I'm enjoying Castle at the moment. Get Jewel Stait and Sumer Glau guest-staring in that and I'll be happy.

The proposed storyline with Inara and the Reapers sent a chill down my spine.

After learning what that syringe was for from the pilot and the storyline to go with it I think I'd almost rather not know. Yeesh, gives me the creeps just thinking about it.

I could have used at least another hour of the discussion at the table; even after ten years, there's still undeniable chemistry between the actors.

BTW, did anyone else notice Ron Glass was conspicuously absent except for clips from the series? Gina Torres (Zoë) and Morena Baccarin (Inara) weren't at the table with the others, but at least they were interviewed for this special. Just curious if anyone knows why.

I don't know about Gina, but Jewel and Morena are both on TV shows now so that could have been why they couldn't be on set.

I figured the same (scheduling conflicts) with the exception of Glass. Not sure what gives with him not being there. God I wish we could see one more film from this series.

I think that Ron Glass was the only member of the cast that really didn't want anything more to do with the show after it was canceled and, IIRC, actually requested that Book be killed off in Serenity. I think this is also why you don't seem to see him at any cons, I guess that to him the show's over and it's time to move on and not dwell on it. Being the oldest cast member he's probably of the old school and doesn't understand fandom and once a show's he's on is done he just moves on and doesn't look back.

Awww man...I saw the commercial for it and thought "Don't miss this....you better not miss this....."...and yep, I missed it! :(
