Finished Cylon Raider & Basestar

This weekend I was able to finally finish the Cylon kits that I had on my bench for a couple of months now. Kits were from Howling Wolf, Raider in 1:24, around 38cm, Basestar 1:2500, around 80cm.

The Raider:

The Basestar:

Unfortunately, I decided very late in the process (basically just before glueing the two halves together) to include some lighting in the Basestar. At that point, the model was already painted and finished, so I didn't want to drill hundreds of tiny windows in it (not to mention putting the fiber optics in there). Has anyone done this - and how does it look?

Hope you like the pics

They look REALLY nice!, but no matter what link I click it keeps showing me the same picture for each ship. So I can only see one pic per ship....strange.

I have the Basestar on my bench. Nice kit and excellent service from Federation Models.

The technique I am using for the windows might be able to be used on a fully built kit.

I'm using a pounce wheel (Plastruct markets them as "rivet tools") that is essentially a small gear wheel with extremely sharp points. You roll it along a surface and it gives you evenly spaced indentations. In this case, they are actually square and so are the windows, so it works out. I draw a line in pencil using a straight edge or a surface gauge and then follow it by rolling the wheel over the line. You can vary the pressure to get a deeper hole. There will be a little ridge around the hole that can be sanded down or left (it does add some texture to the model. Once done you can use them as a guide for drilling out (if you go the fiber optic route (painful), or just paint the windows in.

Mine will be lit with a combo of LED's and incandescent lights, and a few fiber optics scattered here and there. The windows will just be painted. I'm not that crazy........

Hi,

I was thinking about just painting the windows in. Please post some pictures when you´re done with your buildup - I´m very interested to see how it will turn out.
