finished connor remake sword

ok so i spent all night cleaing this up, i am actually gonna break out the airbrush for the ones people get themselves, but this is basically how they look... and i love the tail re-do... i went the traditional rout and added the Fuchi and seppas, and the habaki, they are all being sent to be copper plated so they are an equal color, the ones in these pics were painted with a 'real' copper paint, it has copper flakes in it and all that... but there not equal looking... there will be 2 hidden metal pins and the tangs are embedded in the
handles with fiberglass wrap and polymer resin, the handles are made from rotocast 320 resin, they are very strong, but any ******* can break them if they try lol... the blades are pratical hand forged blades, i will be offering with and without the hamon (blood groove) if you want the hamon i will have them available right away, if not it will be a little longer... i will be taking full on proffesional shots here very soon so you can see, i am also looking into a local sword master to play with them and test them out before i send them out, i want to know of any issues that need to be corrected before i do this...

Nice job. I have seen 3 variations of the Hilt/Tsuba on this sword and could never decide which I liked the most. I was never really partial to the one with the ruby in the center though.

Hummm...I always thought that the Hamon was the kind of "shadowing" that runs all along the cutting edge of the blade ??
Appears during the making process and after a great polishing...I guess :confused

Nice saber by the way.

'shadowing' :lol The Hamon is an effect created on the blade by the hardening process, a sword crafted in this way is known as 'differentially hardened', with a harder ha than mune as a result of clay applied on the blade during the cooling process.

Many cheap modern Katana's don't have a natural hamon, they fake them with acid etching and there are other crude methods to do it quickly and cheaply. Traditionally the Hamon is done by hand with clay during the cooling process and is like a signature of the bladesmith.

i realized after i messed it up lol... i meant the blood groove not the hamon...

Looks nice Irish!

The clay is put on before heat treating the blade. This creates a different cooling rate. That gives you different hardnesses.

The "blood grove" is the Hi or Bo-Hi and has more to do with reducing weight.

Oh yea,Irish....please don't even take that personally!

Like I said-Love the whole sword!

I was just trying to post something usefull!!! :D

no no im not taking it personally... i am very open to suggestions... and if i am mis representing something then i am glad for the swift kick in the ol backside to fix it... i am going to be getting the handle dressings (tsuba, fuchi and seppas) brass plated, so that should be the last bit...
