Finemolds Y-wing with lighting

Ive been considering this project for a while. I really wanted to do it to prove to myself that i can. It is lit with 2 LEDs for the engines ,and one to provide the light source for the cockpit and R2 unit. Its comming along and the cockpit fibre optics are installed as are the engines and all of the wiring. The rest shouldnt take too long. Makes a change from all of the studio scale stuff i normally light.

Very tasty! Is it hard to wire that kinda stuff? I'd like to light a few smaller models I'm planning on doing, but don't know about the difficulty level.

With the X wing finished i am moving on with this. I ran the optics for the R2 unit and painted the fibre ends with clear red and blue. I need to do some more light blocking on the engine nozzles.

Hey very cool. I'm hoping to do similar when I get to my FM kits. Curious though, do you think the interior could have used any foil or blackening treatment to minimize the light bouncing/escaping?

Haven't done this before, especially in a confined space and with probably not too heat resistant plastic... any tips?

No it shouldnt really as the bulb for the cockpit fibre optics in in the fuselage.

Did more work today. The assembly work is basically done. I just need to add the T strut and steering vanes etc. I also fitted the fibre optics to the R2 unit. There were 2 at the back of his head but one broke. He still looks good though.

Wow, just wow.

Can't wait to see the finished product, the lights really bring it to life.

I started the paint today. I did my usual white primer , black wash , then a light grey mix topcoat. I have also painted all of the markings so far . I can get the chipped paint look that way.

I just got a FM Y-Wing as a gift, so your work is very inspiring to crack open the box. Do you have any more pics of the buildup? Particularly the painting/weathering.
