Fine Molds Falcon progress pics UPDATED

MAN... building this for a member....I have built hundreds of kits, I dont think I have built one with so many TINY parts....
It took me a week and a half just to buld it. I am a week behind schedule for the guy but the part count was unexpected.

I am matching the 3 foot studio Falcon, getting every streek and stain on this baby. Doing it by sections.

If you mean the photos? weird...taken under the same light, no flash within seconds of each other. I hate taking photos.

to answer some questions...
Decails were not used, all was masked and painted.

All battle damage was added, kit had none.

Most of the Falcon paints were used. The Falcon is not white but a color called grime...sort of a dirty yellowish white. When photographed she looks white.

Some air brush was used, since I was replicating the 3 ft Falcon and all painting and weathering was scaled down 3 times, I needed better control...so chalks and washed were used.

All the streaks were charcoal pencil, this was laid down with a tiny streak, about a 1/4 of final streak. a pastel blender (rolled piece of paper with a point) was used to drag the charcoal down using a straight edge. MUCH MORE CONTROL you have yes

many more steps after ....if anyone is interested I will dish out more info.

So Dean, what's your take on the "3ft vs 5ft" controversy? Some say the FineMolds people made a mistake in modeling the kit after the 3-footer.

What say you, are you satisfied to have a replica of the 3-foot Falcon miniature? Or do you wish it looked more like the 5-footer which is much more familiar and well known?

good question...

How they would replicate the 5 footer is beyond me...sooooo much detail

I have gathered a ton of pics of both, I LOVE the 5 ft paint job and damage. the chipped paint streaks, stains are FANTASTIC....

The 3 footer is much more weathered and dark, much less attention to all the little details.

Room wise....I will take a 3 footer.

I dont think they made a mistake. They replicated every kit bashed detail, it was really amazing to build and unexpected. It seams all that are building the Falcon from scratch are doing the 3 foot, most likley because of the size issue, but it is popular and quite fantastic.

Nope that made sense. Personally I kind of chafe at the proportions on the FM/3-footer (the too-small and too-tight vent discs on the back, the too-small radar dish, etc).

The FM is masterfully done, don't get me wrong. It just looks a bit "wonky" to my eye.
