Finding a local machinist?

How does one go about finding a local machinist to do a run of parts for a project?

I've looked online and from the sites I've come across, they all look like very large companies and not one to take on hobbiest style projects.

Is there a list or resource of smaller machine shops I'm not aware of?

I'm in Austin, TX by the way.
