Finally watched the Clone Wars movie (2008)

I actually think she gets better, and she loses the Sky Guy crap pretty early. As said, the movie was a poor kick off to the series, it's actually a lot better.

When I first saw the movie, I was sorta ho-hum about it. The series started, and I was feeling better and better about it. Now...daaayyyum. Just amazing. If your kid liked the movie, start watching the show together. You might be surprised to find yourself enjoying it. Even the Louisiana Hutt grows on you, and Asokha becomes faaaar less annoying.

(And can you have a gay Hutt? I thought the Han Solo trilogy by Crispin established that, in the EU at least, Hutts are hermaphroditic/able to change gender. Ooooh the possibilities for some whacky wild Hutt lovin'!)

It is not a movie. It is a pilot that they had shown in theatres ... :p

By the way... If I had kids, I would not let them watch the Clone Wars series. At least, I would not let them watch any episode without seeing it myself first. Some episodes contain far too much violence without the depth and explanation that I think is necessary when there is violence in childrens shows. Other episodes, I think, glorify the military life of the clone troopers too much.

The tone is hard to nail down. It's aimed at kids, but can be very violent/intense, I agree. My kids are 7 and 9, which I consider plenty old enough to watch this. As far as glorifying the military life, what's the harm? The military is a noble profession, in most civilized societies. Now if it was glorifying military bloodshed/war, that'd be different, but I think it paints a fair, perhaps even slightly cynically clear-sighted view of how soldiers can be unjustly used.

Perhaps a metrosexual Hutt then?

Agreed though, the stories for the most part did get better.

You mean you didn't like Jabba's gay cousin?

Lol! Ya, I rolled my eyes at that one. Not to mention he spoke English...

My biggest problem with the girl is the extreme lack of respect she has for her "Master". We're supposed to believe that all Jedi are like monks and are expected to have reverence for their superiors yet she's bad mouthing him all the time.

Oh well, I didn't have much hope for it. Maybe one day we'll watch the series but I've always been an original trilogy guy and once again my beliefs were re-enforced.

My son is four and to be honest I don't have much problem with him watching violence provided I'm there to put it in context. He's a very mature four as well. We've been watching something and there's a violent scene that I think is a bit much and he'll turn to me and say "Don't worry Daddy, it's just a movie, they're okay".

The distinction that has to be made is that what he's seeing is fake and inappropriate for the real world. Once your child has that they'll be okay. I don't hide things from him, when our pet rabbit died (extreme old age for a rabbit) I let James see him and we buried him in the back yard. I explained death to him and he understood what it means in the real world.

Sad? Yes, but important. I'll never be one of those parents that says "Bunny is on at a happy farm now".

Of course that doesn't mean we're going to sit down and watch the SAW movies together, but some animated violence in a Clone Wars show doesn't worry me. :)

See that's what I keep hearing is the movie started off the series with a VERY BAD impression, but the actual series itself is rather good.

I personally hated the movie for many of the reasons people here said.

I'm starting to break down and just might start watching the series. Is it really a major level up from the movie release?

I liked the movie, in as much as it was really about 4 episodes shown back to back. The stories did get a lot better in the series though.

The real problem with the Clone Wars movie is that the events depicted take place somewhere in the middle of the first season of the television series. I'm sure the people at Lucasfilm felt it was a fair representation of what the television series would be and a good way to "introduce" the potential audience to the series, but taken out of the context of the series' continuity it is a bit odd at first glance. Once you've seen the first season of the series, the movie's plot and the interactions of the main characters make a little more sense.

That said, I concur with the opinions stated above that the series is worth watching, and IMO has gotten better with each season. The rather simplified plots and the violence are an odd mix, but I'd guess this is the result of the producers' attempts to make it entertaining for younger and older viewers. Clearly each parent should decide for themselves whether or not the violence is appropriate for their children, but I do believe the violence isn't too excessive as long as children understand it's fake/pretend/make-believe and inappropriate in real life.

As for Ahsoka Tano (Anakin's Padawan), I think she's a bit of "instant Karma" for Anakin. What I mean is, Anakin was always cocky and strong-willed, so now he's experiencing what it must have been like for Obi-Wan to deal with him at times.

For awhile I thought the show was quite good. Then season two came along and blew my socks off. Then season three hit a lull/boring stretch, but now it's back into flat out blowing my mind. So much fun. So if the movie didn't grab you, consider watching the first few episodes and see.

It's waaaaaaay better than the PT itself, frankly, and on par with some of the best Star Wars comics (a medium I think Star Wars is very well suited for).
