Freaked the wife out and left me confused. Frank the Bunny leaves quite the image in ones mind when you go to sleep!!!

The Philosophy of Time Travel........... very interesting!

I had to watch it twice and use wikipedia to figure out what was going on. But once I did, stellar film. :thumbsup

I see your point, but at the same time, I'd rather see a movie like Donnie Darko than a movie like Transformers 2, where plot seems to be an afterthought.

Biggest waste of time ever. If you need the internet to "get" a movie it sucks.

Not everyone can be as smart as Marylin Vos Savant. Sure some people get lost in a movie like Donnie Darko. Some people may just want to determine whether they were right or not. Some people may only want to know what other people thought.

I remember the first time I saw Jacob's Ladder, all the people I saw the movie with enjoyed the movie. Everyone had a good time discussing the ending of the movie for hours afterward. Some of us were still talking about it days later. None of that subtracted from our enjoyment of the picture. Quite the opposite. If you find a movie getting under your skin days after you saw it, chances are it worked for you.

With that being said, I didn't like the Director's Cut. It dumbed the story down to a point I no longer liked the movie.

At what point is something just dumb? You can look for meaning and usually find it in anything, but sometimes, it's just a bad movie.

After I exclude the "usual suspects" (ie, the Star Wars', Indy's, LOTR), I find Donnie Darko - along with Chasing Amy - to be my favorite movies of all time (up until this point).

Darko is an exceptional flick - and works on many different levels. But, I do feel it just kinda lucked into being that great a film. The non-director's cut is a better watch (well, at least for the first watch).

A friend gave me DD and I watched it every day for almost a week straight. I was immersed in it and passed it on to almost anyone who'd listen. Most friends I gave it to were just as intrigued by it as I was. I love being made to think in a movie but there are those who go to the show just to be dumbed down and to stop thinking. I suppose I have the same feeling about dumbed down movies as JCoffman99 does about movies that you really need to think about, bad or not.

The Directors Cut of DD is horrible. Too many unnecessary changes and most are for the worst.

I will warn any of you who will listen...STAY AWAY FROM THE SEQUEL, S.DARKO. One of the worst movies I've ever seen. No joke. You've been warned.

Yeah, blame it on the movie. I "got" it the first time around (technically, the second time, as the first time I only caught the last 15-20 minutes on cable). I've since seen both versions.

I think the movie's strength is that it works on the surface, yet doesn't go out of it's way to explain everything to death. You can draw your own conclusions, and it still works.

On the other hand, given some of the bonus material on the directors cut (The Cult of Donnie Darko?), that may not be such a good thing either.

DD was another movie I watched knowing absolutely nothing about it. I even thought Johnny Depp was in it. Lol! Glad I did. Loved it. The director's commentary on the dvd is good too.

I think you either love this movie for it's originality or you hate it for it.

Add me to the ranks of those who loved it. I thought it was great. I didn't NEED all the answers, but it was fun to discuss and to go to the interwebz and see what others had to say about it. :)
